Can someone give me tips and tactics on how to beat Tyranid or Imp Guard?

A bit more informations would be good. What are you running so far? What do your enemies bring? With what do you struggle the most?

I am just looking for general ideas on how Tau deal with Tyranid (assault heavy armies) and Imp Guard (static pie plate armies)
