Saw a list that sounded a little crazy to me, wanted to discuss it with others on the forum.

The only thing that was relevant about it was the elite choices:

- 3 Chaos Terminator units, 2 extra terminators, MoN, combi-weapons, Land Raider dedicated transport

This costs around 1100 points and could really only be used effectively in a 1500 - 2000 point game. It sounds like a huge expenditure of points, but I don't really know what an effective counter for it would be. I mean, the terminators could reliably drive up in the Land Raiders, shoot off combi weapons, assault, then move on to the next thing. The Land Raiders can shoot up targets on the way and probably will not get hit hard when moving.

Wondering 2 things:

1) How would you counter units like this in a Chaos list? What is the big weakness you see?

2) How would you compliment units like this in a 1500 - 2000 point list?

The biggest weakness, in my mind, is the lack of anything to deal with hordes. If this list came up against a significant number of foot troops, there just aren't enough attacks to deal with it. The Land Raiders provide a good amount of anti-tank, but once the Terminators get out, they're going to be whittled down pretty easily, considering they can't always be in assault and they are the only target for anti-infantry fire, of which there will probably be a lot. Oh, another major weakness would be things like Drop Pod Sternguard of Flamers of Tzeentch, who could come down first turn and wreck your Land Raiders, making your slow Terminators walk across the board.

To complement it, I would probably use Cultists as my troops, and have them sit on objectives to give another target for anti-infantry fire. Large blobs in cover should draw enough fire off the Terminators to help significantly. It doesn't really seem like you'd need a beatstick HQ with all of those termies, so maybe go with a Sorceror in a support role? Oh, and an Aegis for anti-air. That would be getting pretty close to 1500, I'd imagine. At 2000 pack in a few Helldrakes and season to taste.

Eldar shenanigans are the best shenanigans!

1) Counter it with a dark eldar army. Too much lance weaponry would kill the land raiders early and then pick off the terminators with their 5++ saves.
1b) otherwise try with hordes. Orks would do very well as would nids. Lots of bodies and bring the LR down in combat. Then lots of smashy/rending/or PK hits to finish the termites
1c) necrons glance to death the LR then kill the termintes with wraiths
1d) IG. It would take the guard some time to down the raiders until they were in melta range but they would do it. After that IG have the firepower to wipe the terminators before they get around to doing too much damage.
1e) loyalist force with TH/SS termintes in better variant landraiders.

really this army is only remotely effective against other SM, and then only really against those that get cute.

To try to complement it I would think about shooty CSM in rhinos to run up and support the termintes. Also possibly screen the landraiders by popping smoke in front, otherwise use the LR for cover.
a unit of cultists at home might be useful, just to try and claim an objective
autocannon havocs will help with hordes, DE, IG and popping transports for the termites. Note that havocs can take a rhino that the cultists can kruze around in(a 35 point tank full of 50 points of models gets ignored a lot to come in late game and score).
Vindicator / dakka Preditor. If you want to go all mech, AV13 is almost as good as AV14 and these guys can march up with the LRs

I recently played a doubles tourny and was facing deathwing force with two land raiders with space marines with another land raider, I had three storm ravens in total and squad of GK termies, PA GK and two tac squads. On turn 2 two SR's come on and blew up the first two land raiders, the last was taking pot shots at ravens till turn 4 when it was blown up, the termies were taken out rather quickly as well.
