Is there any way that picking a different size option in the "share this image" gallery dropdown could also resize the frame the image is displayed in? Or otherwise just have a larger frame? I think 800x600 might be a little too small at this point, but maybe there is an insurmountable technical issue\not worth the time, whatever.

Yup this is planned for a future update already. 800 max width is too outdated now.

Any word on this?

This is what the Dakka gallery looks like at my native resolution:

Spoiler:

The actual size of that image is 6016x2701 so it should display awesomely in widescreen. Even just a link to pop the image out at native resolution would be awesome or something like that.

It's only been 3 years Still planned for an update :S

Bandwidth is a big part of the puzzle - we are close to our hosting caps so I have to be very slow and gentle or we'll end up with a massive bill.

The next step is calling you all fascists.

I'm not really clear what happens after that though, but I assume it's a giant-ass viewing portal in the gallery. 4K for all, at a minimum.

None of these references are going to make any sense in 2022, unfortunately.

Ouze, ever the optimist.

I like the cut off your jib, Ouze

(And would also love this feature, it would make casually browsing the gallery so much nicer! But totally understand if bandwidth is an issue...)

I suspect it's far less an issue of bandwidth than simply that screens have grown exponentially since the Gallery was first set up...

It has barely been half a decade, come on

I can add it fairly easily at this stage as our bandwidth costs have dropped considerably, but it would come at a cost of removing the tiled zooming on images. Is that what we all want?

Yes, please! Not a fan of the zooming anyway, so no problems there!

When i try to search randomly through pictures, every 3rd picture or so is this red scorpian chaos model any one else get that? So irritating lol

Its not a pleasant experience trying to just randomly scroll through random pictures, very unnecessarily complicated which makes me not want to look through them all. I think if there was a arrow at the side of each picture and you could easily flick through them that way, that would be probably better mabye? Just a suggestion.

How are you 'searching randomly'? As in, what button are you pressing?

OK, then no, it's not doing that for me. Maybe try clearing your browser cache, in case it's gotten stuck on something.

Admitting that I'm not particularly active in using the gallery, it seems to me that increasing the size of the viewing frame makes zooming somewhat redundant as a feature, no?
