Hello All,
I'm looking to slowly start building up a Beastmen Fantasy army. Currently I'm working on building up my 40k ork horde so I'm thinking every 4-5 ork purchases I make a beastmen purchase. I have perused the Beastmen army book and reviewed some tactics and have learned that Bestigors and the chariots are good units. However it would be great if anyone had any advice on which models either fun or competitive to buy next.

2 battalions and a box of bestigor is a great start. This gives you a horde of gor, 30 strong bestigor for 6 wide and ranks and 4 units of 5 raiders. Now before we get to lords/heroes lets talk what direction you want to go to. If you want a minobus list get 3 boxes of Minotaur use 3 as your gorebulls/doombulls the rest behind them for ranks and supporting attacks. If you want a more balanced list or Herdstone list you can invest more heavily in 10 more bestigors and shaman for the Herdstone, maybe a 6 man Minotaur unit check out Oncebitten360's YouTube channel for a balanced list. Chaff you need it to pick your battles the raiders do this well but beastmen have access to bar none the best options for this in the game with harpies and razorgor, if you want a cheaper alternative consider converting your own for harpies use tyranid gargoyal wings + ungor/daemonettes/ghouls for razorgor wither Orc and goblin boars or savage boars and chaos spawn bitz. For heroes I like a beastlord, a BSB and 4 shaman for Herdstone lists.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

In regards to lords and heroes I like the herdstone lists, as you know successful magic is crucial. One of the coolest thing atleast fluff wise I don't know about on the table top, is building a doombull with a 1+ armor save and having in wreak havoc on an opponent. I really like all of the units within the codex and am open to going in any direction.

Beastmen have a few tricks. The primary is the chaff. With 5 ungor raiders costing 30 points, they can take control of the movement phase like no other army. Then they have lords like the Doombull. A few people stick him on a carpet, some give him the 1+ rerollable armour save that lets him make an extra attack when he passes it. I personally skip him. I will come onto that shortly. As for magic, they have an even more reliable way to gain dice than high elves. In the form of the shard of the herdstone. Surround it by two level 1s on shadow and you will have 2 extra dice before channels. And as miasma has a range of 48" and doesn't require a line of sight, they can work from the back of the board. Some people take 3 mages and the herdstone, I prefer two and a level 2 beasts riding with my gor. As for the almost mandatory level 4, a death mage riding with bestigor is brutal. He is mostly loaded out with the fencers blades. Which more often than not makes him survivable enough. And the way he works is as follows: He ideally rolls up, soulblight, caress, spirit leech and another spell we don't care about. He then parks 24" away from your opponents characters, casting spirit leech and caress. And this is why I said skip the doombull. In the same unit as the level 4, we have a stubborn beastlord. And the unit carries the standard of discipline. And thanks to the vague FAQ, we use the highest LD in the unit for unmodifiable leadership tests. Then add in a 206 BSB as it makes gor SO much better. As for core, you mostly see one block of at least 30 gor, then the rest is chariots and 5-man units of ungor raiders. This works as the Gor and BSB provide the combat punch, whilst the level 2 in the unit makes sure that when they get into combat, they will be wildformed, and the chariots and raiders make sure you get into combat when you want to. Specials are not as abundant in the army as core, this is because most people run a block of bestigor, harpies and two lone razorgor. The razorgor and harpies aid the chariots and raiders in redirecting and generally making sure you get in combat when you want to. The Bestigor bunker the beastlord and level 4 and be stubborn as well as provide a secondary combat block. It is generally advisable to skip rares out altogether, because they are overpriced for what they do.

DA I assume you mean razorgor not centigor above. Personally I leave the level 2 at home park 3 level 1s around the stone and pack a level 4 with the gor to benefit from beast banner with jagged dagger. Getting wild form off on a level 2 is a 3 dice commitment and. i prefer all my shaman shadow possibly beasts on the level 4. Not a fan of death but if you bring it check out the hag tree fetish.

I did mean razorgor and I have no idea how I made that typo. Editing to fix now. As for the level 2, I generally find that the only spells I use are wildform and curse of anraheir. Don't get me wrong, I do like beasts. I just find that a level 4 death works better as it allows you to deal with characters and the soulblight bubble is bent. And with the standard of discipline+Beastlord you end up with a LD10 spirit leech which actually does make a difference.

I like death but not a big fan of the short range on the damage spells, particularly when you are trying to get into combat. I'll tell you that a purple sun cast in combat against a unit that you miasmaed down to Initiative 1 is really effective.
