I always take one of each. That way you always have the right weapon for the job.

I favor Tesla but I bring other things to kill armor, it really boils down to how you plan to use the weapons. The below Pro/Con list is assuming the weapons are on immortals.
Gauss:
Pros:
AP 4(assuming immortals)
Rapid Fire
Gauss Quality
Cons:
Max of 1 shot at above 12"
Can't assault
Tesla:
Pros:
More shots at above 12"
Assault
Most things have a 3+ or better armor
Great for overwatch and snap firing
Cons:
AP -

Gauss=decent against infantry, hit/miss on vehicles Tesla=good against GEQs, hit/miss on MEQs, no-take against vehicles & TEQs If your meta has more mechs than footsloggers, then gauss would be preferable & vice versa for Tesla to an extent. Tesla imo might not be the best choice for MEQs since they still get their 3+ and the hardest hitting tesla is only S7. Both have their nÃches, so depending on your meta it might be good to bring both.

Well, I give Immortals tesla weapons and Warriors gauss weapons.
Gauss was the greatest mathematician of all times. Tesla, well, I'm not an electrical engineer.
