Hi,

I'm just getting into warhammer 40k after painting for years I thought it was about time I had a game.

I have played through dark vengeance with my two friends a few times and we have decided to try building an army each.

I have a reasonable amount of chaos models but require some advice on the best army to create with the models I have.
Or if it can't be done which models to buy next.

If you could advise on a 1000 point army as I believe that will be the starting size of our armies.
Then we plan to take them up to 2000 as soon as we have come to grips with our setup and tactics etc

The models I already own are:

2 Daemon Princes
2 Lords (Kranon)
Typhus
Abbaddon

10 Chosen
2 Hellbrutes

10 csm
2 old havocs heavy bolter and missile launcher
2 old plague marines
40 cultists

4 Obliterators
Mauler/Forgefiend conversion

Predator Tank
Rhino Tank

I was thinking about a berzerker + plague cc set up with mauler and fast attack and rhino to get in fast but I'm not really sure how chaos play best due to only playing dark vengeance a few times so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look toward to your response

You seem to have a pretty solid base from which to start building a Chaos Space Marine army. Chaos excel with short-ranged firepower and to a lesser extent close combat, but are flexible enough to bring some long-range shooting too.

Looking at your models it's difficult to put together a complete army list as much will depend on your weapon choices and so on. Try putting together a sample list based on the models you have and the theme you want - this makes it a lot easier to get feedback.

As a general tip, build your army around your mandatory choices (HQ and 2 troops) depending on your theme, then add in extras to taste. Make sure you've included a sold base of fire even if you are planning on getting up close - chaos generally need the assistance provided by long range support before they get into optimum range.
