Hello dakka, I am very new to airbrushing. I would like some help with different brands and colors for a space wolves theme. I am really having trouble finding the correct colors, any help would be great!

I like to paint mine with more neutral greys rather than the robin's egg blue GW uses.

Since I use primarily craft paints (thinned with Future), I'm not sure of a GW equivalent to my base coat. Specifically I use Ceramcoat Hippo Grey as the base coat. It looks to have a greenish tinge to it in the bottle but comes out pretty neutral. Second, I give them a moderate wash with Badab Black. I then use Administratum/Fortress grey for highlights. This gives them a darker, grittier look while keeping them looking truly grey from a distance and bright enough to see easily. I use the same for my vehicles of course, and allows me to achieve more dramatic results with pre and post shading. Though in this case, when using Administratum grey for post shading, mixing in a bit of the darker base coat, just a little, helps keep things from being too starkly contrasted. With a light touch on the airbrush the mixing isn't necessary.

I had initially used Tamiya Dark Grey, but found it far too dark. The models done that way look almost black from a distance, even after going in and drybrushing Administratum to lighten them up.

Yes this is along the lines of what im thinking! The only thing is i just started buying from the vallejo air series. So the type that according to what i am told, does not really need thinned down. So this is my struggling point. I am glad you brought up i enjoy the neutral grey a lot more not the powder or robins egg blue. thank!

You're correct that Model Air does not require thinning. I've seen some do it a little, but it seems unnecessary to me.

Have you done any painting? If so, how'd it go?

VMA paint still needs to be thinned, just not nearly as much as other paints. Just like brush painting, when airbrushing, multiple thin coats are always better than one thick coat.
