Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

I generated a random chapter using the FFG DIY chapter generator, ended up convincing myself to start marines!
Wanted to run it by everyone and see what everyone thought of it.

The Silver Lances Chapter
Strategic Prognostication: The Ghoul Stars
Founding: 41st Millennium 26th Founding

Primogenitor Chapter: The Salamanders (There was a 1/100 chance of this....and I rolled a 100)
Gene-Stock: A New Generation: Some ties to Salamanders, no agility loss or black skin, still red-eyed
Demeanor: Cleanse and Purify: Favor the utter defeat of their foes.

Gene-seed deficiency: Disturbing Voices (They seem to have an echo on them when they speak)

Chapter Characteristics: Utilize Squad Tactics and Lightning Assaults
Figure of Legend: 1st Chapter Master: The hero led a glorious campaign against a rebel army, defeating the foe and bringing an entire sector back into the light of the Emperor.
“Selvarus Grecius”

Planets: Hive World, Feral World, Uninhabited World (Chapter Base)
Trial: Combat against a battle brother
Home Planet: Tarethia (Ice Planet)
Relationship: Distant Rule

Codex Belief: Divergent Chapter
Combat Doctrine: Lightning Strikes
Chapter Specialty Restrictions -No Assault Marines

Special Equipment
Preferred Fighting Style:
-Rhino/Bike Assaults into enemy entrenched positions, disgorging storm-bolter, combi-weapon and heavy flamer wielding Tactical Marines into Close Quarters firefights/ Drop pod assaults into boxed in opponents, using heavy guns to clear landing sites just before landing, using bikes to create favorable firing lanes.

Chapter Beliefs
THE EMPEROR ABOVE ALL

Chapter Strength
Nominal
Chapter Friends
Imperial Guardsmen
Chapter Enemies
The Orks

Heraldry
A pair of ornate crossed lances
Livery
Silver armor, red pauldrons with gold trim

The Phalanx is the Silver Lancer preferred attack pattern, involving outriding and outflanking attack bikes harrying the enemy and boxing him in, and then performing a powerful thrust into the heart of their formation’s lines via Rhino, Razorback, or even Land Raider. The Phalanx guard are the men who ride within the rhinos, armed with combi-weapons, storm-bolters, and heavy flamers, they disgorge into brutal close-quarters firefights, using squad tactics to overwhelm their pressed foes. Leaving nothing alive in their wake, they advance, with close support from their vehicles, to take the fight to the enemy.

The Phalanx Praetorians are the men on attack bikes who harry the enemy into a position for the guard to strike, usually after an artillery barrage. They wield heavy bolters or multi-meltas, along with power lances and other close combat weapons for the charge.
This is vaguely reminiscent of the Salamander’s principles of the “Hammer and Anvil” where the Praetorians serve as the hammer, and the guard as the anvil that breaks the enemy.
Silver Lance Marines will spend time in each company, while those more technically inclined will serve as ranged fire support from whirlwinds, and predator tanks.
The First company traditionally will perform this maneuver with Land Raiders, and terminator armor. Alternatively, the Praetorians can be used to box in the enemy for a devastating artillery strike followed by drop pod assault covered by deathwind missile launchers
The Silver Lances excel in operations with the Imperial Guard, as they can provide a strong “jumping off” point for lightning raids and assaults, as well as decimating firepower on their out-maneuvered and boxed in foes.

History:
The Silver Lances were formed by good graces of the Salamaders, at the behest of the Lords of Terra. The worlds of man near the Ghoul Stars, one by one, had been falling into darkness and shadow, and it was clear additional forces would be required.
The required equipment was produced at cost for the fledgling chapter, resulting in a relative lack of relics, however they were bequeathed a single Salamander's relic to remind them of their roots. The First Chapter Master, Selvarus Gracus, was faced with a widely spanning task. With limited resources, he would be forced to carve a path through the enemies of man and establish themselves as a fully-fledged force.
The Hive World of Belicas II was in revolt, the Apostate Cardinal Silas Y'lnod raising a large force of militia across the sector to overthrow the imperial presence there. To what end, no one could guess. Upon arrival on wings of fire via drop pod, breaking an assault on the beleaguered PDF forces, they decided to launch a strike against the planetary missile batteries of the world.

Heavily Entrenched, the Rebels would not be easily deterred, the marines deployed dozens of squads of bikers, neutralizing outriding positions, and setting up the final strike. Basilisk and whirlwind fire rained down on bunkers, and displaced rebels ran into the open, as a dozen shining land raider crusaders plowed into their lines, disgorging the entire first company into the thick of battle. Meanwhile, rhino assaults followed farther down the line severed all semblance of order. Librarians leading their brother's assaults using their divination of the future to help direct their squad's actions, and lending a preternatural efficiency to their movements, flanking, and avoidance of enemy fire. Steadily, and surely they cleansed the entirety of the facility, bikers running down any and all who would attempt to flee retribution.

Upon storming the control room, the chapter's techmarines went to work, reprogramming the missile batteries to target Hive Delarius, the heart of the rebellion rather than the Silver Lance fleet in orbit. The local PDF commander begged for mercy for whatever men and women remained loyal to the Emperor, however the Chapter Master gruffly returned only "The Emperor will know his own, none of this treason must remain."

A dozen missiles later, the Hive was little but smoking wreckage, and the rebellion under control with their leader dead.

For their victory, the Lances were bequeathed a world upon which to base themselves, and continue serving the Emperor, which they have dutifully done for the last 500 years.

Thoughts?

Hi, I'm sorry to say this but, this is for canon fluff. Not chapter fluff.

Which means it cannot be posted here. However, you could discuss it in general discussion perhaps, run it by others. Furthermore, may I recommend this website?

Please do not take offense to this. I myself am working on a fan chapter too but, yet again, this forum isn't for this type of content.

Quite suitable for the Dakka fiction board however....

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Yeah, fan-made background belongs in either the 40K discussions or fanfiction sections of Dakka: I've notified a mod to have it moved for you.

As for the fluff itself: I think its nicely done and well-rounded, definitely showing the character you're attempting to portray. I think the red-eyes idea is cool, and I like the idea of the Phalanx (although the name may be a bit similar to the fortress monastery or Necron strategy of the same name?) too, seems like a really neat tactic and reminiscent of the Salamanders own close-quarters style, particularly against Orks or Tyranids. Although I can't see it working against the likes or Eldar or Necrons...

My only real issue with it is that you've not really linked them to the Salamanders or explained how they've got their geneseed or their ties to the Chapter. I really feel this needs expanding upon as, officially, there are no confirmed Salamanders successor chapters - on which point you may wish to mention that the Salamanders are the unconfirmed source of their geneseed or something?
Similarly, the name Silver Lances doesn't sound like a Salamanders successor: terms like Fire, Dragon, Drake etc. all help with this, so Silver Drakes or something may be more suitable?

So yeah, I feel the idea of them being a Salamanders successor is so notable it should really be further expanded upon. There's already some potential similarities, such as the contrast between an ice world and Nocturne, and their similar close-quarters style.
You could elaborate upon the role of flame weapons in the phalanx; such as to corner and then destroy their enemies? You could change the fluff so they save the hive and innocent citizens - as the Sallies would? You could emphasise an artisan aspect to them outside of battle (linking to silver)?
Then again, you could contrast them to their parent chapter (like with the ice world and greater use of fast-attack elements): as their voices make them detached and inhuman, whilst the destruction of the hive makes them cold and brutal.

There's a lot of directions you could take should you expand upon their relationship to the Sallies.

Should you go further with their development, then their activities in relation to the Ghoul Stars are also worth elaborating upon I feel.

Hope that helps.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

North of your position

Tell more about why the Ghoul Stars. That's a pretty dangerous area.

Highly interested. I would think that unlike discussed above, Silver Lances would work, if they had some sort of flame weaponry available. As for the Silver-artisan comment, I fully agree.

The ghoul stars is a rough sector, why did they choose it? Did they choose it because they wish to secure a foothold for humanity, or to protect humans from invasion via the ghoulstars?

Both would make sense. Elaborate on why they have their namesake, their location, and the ties to the Salamanders, and I think you'll have a great start.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I'll edit the above post when I have time to do so, however my initial thoughts are the following.

Their ties to the Salamanders are minimal spiritually, mostly shown in an affinity for flame and melta weaponry, as well as their artisanship and maintenance of a large vehicle pool, artificer and terminator armor.

Their armor's primary colors are silver, gold, and red.

Dunno why i chose phalanx, it has a lot of uses in the fluff already, it just kinda came to mind, any suggestions as to a better name?

I agree that I should expand on the circumstances surrounding their creation.
The strategic prognostication for the most part would mean the High Lords of Terra decreed an Astartes Chapter would be needed to protect the edges of known imperial space from the threats from beyond

I really like it, especially the balance between mobility and firepower, really adds some intelligence to them. I was feeling that White Scars might be a better successor chapter until you described the "hammer and Anvil" tactics, then salamanders was making more sense.

"The Emperor will know his own, none of this treason must remain." I like that, really adds a nice grimdark streak.

Yeah, their chapter demeanor seems to be more of a Salamanders thing.
Cleanse and Purify: Favor the utter defeat of their foes.

Just keep in mind, i rolled everything here randomly, the fluff is the result of me trying to piece it together cohesively, given the idea that first hit me when I looked at what I had.
Other than that, thank you, keep it coming!
