Currently deciding if next up is my second Spartan, or my Cerberus.

Probably the Spartan, as it should be a quicker job now I know what I want to do scheme wise.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Sod it, second Spartan in the spray box now.

Just that, the Cerberus and two characters left to go in that cabinet now.

Job for next month’s wages is to get some acrylic risers for the Epic Scale shelves though. And I’m hoping to find somewhere that does custom ones.

No…wait. Just remembered that further 20 MkVI Marines still on sprue.

Think I’m gonna look to make a Veteran Tactical Squad or two out of those. Gives me an excuse to get the Forgeworld Upgrade sets, and delve into the ever growing bitz and bobs box of delights.

Day 133

Under/basecoat on my second and finale Spartan. No pic because it’s fundamentally uninteresting.

But now that’s one, maybe pic later after I’ve started on the tracks.

Day 134

Here we go! Strong start on the tracks and one of the sponsons.

Day 135

Rivets and metallic blocking in, and some tidy up as I go.

Definitely making swift progress on this one.

All rivets and hull metallics done. Definitely gonna have this one finished tomorrow. Which means I’ll also be under/basecoating the Cerberus, ready for Friday/Saturday.

After that? This cabinet will just need the two AoD character models done, and everything in it will be painted. Which is a slightly surreal feeling.

Day 136

Very nearly finished the second Spartan. Just need this coat of red to dry, then do the second top coat.

Done, and the Cerberus is now in the spray box.

Day 137

Cerberus is well, well underway.

Once the current bits are dry, I’ll get the tracks dried. Tomorrow lunchtime whizz round and do the rivets, hopefully leaving just the red and copper for the evening.

Day 138

Cerberus all done in the silver metallics. Barrels on the main gun look awful - but are to receive Nuln Oil was and some coppery tone, which should clear it up.

Wash definitely helped, and getting the copper on and a red wash on that helped the similar weapon systems I’ve already painted.

Two Preators in the spray box as I type quietly drying. Got a paint date at my mate’s house tomorrow, so gonna get them done.

Copper down. And given there are three barrels closely grouped, surprisingly easy to access all the relevant bits.

Soon as that layer is dry, hitting it with a thinned down “Red Tone” from Army Painter, which really warms it up.

Weeeeeeeeny but tidying up needed, but otherwise calling that Done.

Also, prep for tomorrow. Sprayed MSG, drybrush Gun Metal. Next up is Grim Black to block the armour in. And it’s going everywhere except the cloaks.

Day 139

QA’PLA!

Really enjoyed painting this chap. Nothing too fancy. But he’s gonna fit in and stand out among the main army just fine.

And his little friend to.

And with that? The. First. Cabinet. Is. Now. Fully. Painted.

Not bad for 4 and a half months painting!

Also built the first of three boxes of Legion Fast Attack.

Really nice kit to work with. Nothing too small or fiddly. But wish the Flying Couches had weapon options. Game wise 1 in 2 can have Plasma Cannon/Heavy Bolter, and it makes for an odd array of guns in the squadron.

Not bad for four and half months work, eh?

Tantalisingly close to finishing my Heresy stuff now. Just 6 Jetbikes, a Landraider Proteus and 3 Deimos Rhinos to go.

But…Day 140

It’s back to assembling Legion Imperialis. Got a box and a half of Fast Attack left to go, then all this is going in the spray box for an undercoat.

Week ahead I’m in two minds about. Got my first game on Saturday, and I may want to get some 28mm Jetbikes painted for that. Or I may just blitz all the stuff I’m building today.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
OK doke.

One more sprue of Legion Fast Attack, and the 28mm Jetbikes in the spray box, as my 1,500 “learn the ropes” list has included them.

And assembly done.

Much more pleasant kit to work with than the chore that was Legion Support.

Three boxes have also let me field a Sky-Hunter Phalanx of significant size, with some spare Speeders, and a full unit of Outriders for my burgeoning Demi-Company.

Next purchase will be a bunch of Sabre Tanks, on account they can slot into all my existing Detachments quite nicely. Overall I think the Neutron Laser ones will fit best with the Sky-Hunters, giving them some speedy anti-tank it’s largely lacking.

Definitely been a busy day of Hobby, as now I’ve got my first three Jetbikes to the pre-Grim Black stage.

If I’m smart, I’ll start the Grim Black tomorrow lunchtime, and finish that stage after work.

From there, probably Tuesday I’ll get the significant metallic areas blocked in. So significant, I’ll be using copper tones as a spot colour here and there to fancy them up.

Should, in theory, have them done by end of Wednesday, with a not insignificant part of that time allowing one part to dry before starting the next, on account no clear handhold.

Wait. Hobby Train didn’t stop at this station!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And finished the Grim Black. Because they were just say there. Taunting me.

Good long overnight dry, and back tomorrow for a whole load of metallics.

Day 141

Strong start on detailing the Jetbikes. Probably about half way through doing their metallics. Had intended to do some at lunch, but I ran out of tea bags so there was a walk down the shops instead.

Lovely cuppa.

Ta

Gonna get the third one to the same level, so by the time I’m back from my appointment, I can slather on the Nuln Oil.

From there it’s just “do I really want copper tones in there” and the inevitable Reddening.

Oh, and the guns. Which I’ve just remembered need Grim Black and metallics. Derp.

But reasonable chance I may have this squadron done tonight. Depends on post-appointment energy levels.

Nearly done.

Multi-Meltas currently drying in Grim Black, with a soft copper to go on the barrel after.

Calling those done now.

Yes I know I need to base them. Got another three Scimitar Jetbikes to do (and their alternate weapons) then there’ll be a Day Of Basing.

Well, more likely a weekend. Got 142 Infantry, 11 Dreads and 6 Jetbikes to base.

Day 142

Back to the Epic scale. 18 Scimitar Jetbike and 12 Outrider stands done in the Grim Black.

Tomorrow I do metallics and the Red. Shouldn’t take very long at all, but I need the speed paint properly dry.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, I’m genuinely at the stage where I need to start thinking what I’m gonna paint next, as there’s no reason I won’t have my Heresy and Legions Imperialis stuff done by the end of this month.

Options include, but aren’t limited to….

1. Zone Mortalis terrain for Necromunda, including 16 base plates
2. Sector Mechanicus terrain for..erm…Necromunda. So much I honestly cannot recall what I do and don’t have.
3. Eldar! Yes, Eldar. Resurrect and wrap up my 2nd Ed to Modern ecksperrimunt.
4. Tyranids
5. HeroQuest.

I think might do them in that rough order. I’ve proper loony, madcap plans for a long running series of Necromunda campaigns, so being able to provide a pooload of terrain feels essential, Spesh if it’s the two separate types for added variety.

But…but…Necromunda. As a GM full of ambitious lunacy.

Provide the terrain and plot hooks, everyone else provides the Gangs and Ultra-V.

Got a proper mad plan to have the players taking part in the founding of a settlement of a newly accessible dome. Carve out our very own part of the Underhive, where actions have lasting consequences that will echo down multiple campaigns.

Over poured the red from the bottle, so did the pauldrons on the Jetbikes as well, just leaving the metallics and bases for tomorrow. Which is nice.
