Hey guys I'm starting a winter themed army and am stuck on the bases. The snow at GW is like 30$ and that's kind of expensive I feel. Is there any other brand that is cheaper or looks better? Or is the 30$ box the best deal?

Thanks
Stuntie

Seconded, Woodland Scenics. $12-$14 for eight times as much product than GW's rip-off in a polytub.

Armies: Space Marines, IG, Tyranids, Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Dark Eldar.

If you use baking soda, make sure to mix some paint in otherwise the baking soda turns brown.

Secret Weapon Miniatures They have amazing stuff there. Not only do they have snow for under thirty dollars, they have scenic kits which include multiple elements. For only fifteen bucks, you can get snow, pebbly ballast rocks, and two different kinds of grass. They also have crushed glass snow, for a far more realistic looking terrain piece. The've also got a realistic water product that adds a lot to wet scenes (especially icy winter scenes!) and is specifically designed for use in miniatures. Finally, they have a tutorial in their tutorial section showing how to use all the aforementioned products.

I highly recommend them.

Both, luckily. GW modeling supplies are always expensive, but selling "snow" that's just white static grass? That's borderline insulting, at their prices. You're better off making your own with baking soda, let alone buying from any of the other manufacturers listed, thus far.

I tried GW and army painter, i prefered army painter, as mentioned GW is just static grass but white.
Army painter is small balls in various sizes (all very small).

Below is what i do for my winter bases.

baking soda, woodland scenics and army painter.... I think Gale Force 9 might also have some stuff. It's more expensive, but still the price of discount dirt when comparing it against citadel. All decent options. Getting any sort of stuff from citadel is a waste of money. If you are about to pay for something from citadel, stop, and ask yourself if army painter, testors or vallejo, or GF9..... you get the point.... carries it instead. If army painter carries it, buy if from them instead. It doesn't have the same volume for price as woodland scenics, but it has the same color range and vibrancy as Citadel.

MWG had a sale recently, offered something like.. %20 off army painters stuff, cost me something like, $3.50 per tub... at $5 for a 150 ml tub, you might find better deal, but, it's still a darn good price for static grass, snow, etc. I've even bought their pluck-and-put stuff. It's expensive, and initially I was really miffed, but now I've used it, I love the stuff as basing gets done so, so so bloody much faster.

EDIT:

Remembered some more stuff. Slightly dangerous because it can shred your lungs: Crushed glass
