Picking up a decent starting army for GK tomorrow. Not looking to field a 2k army right away, just maybe 1000 points to paint and get modeling. Heading over to a shop tomorrow and they only have Brother Stern, Terminators, a Strike Squad, and a Dreadknight, also have to pick up a codex.

Mainly curious as to which of these I should choose to pick up, only have about $100-$150 to spend and would rather not go overboard. I don't know much about GK lists so I don't know which models would be the best bang for my buck. Aiming to field an army with a high number of Terminators and some heavy support to back them up.

Any suggestions are appreciated as our tips for GK lists that could suit what I want.

You need dudes in power armor. Whether they wind up being guys in an interceptor squad or guys in a strike squad, you're probably going to need more regular dudes.

That or coteaz and a bunch of guys to act as henchmen...

Codex, coteaz, 3-4 strike boxs and a dreadknight would probably be a good start.

Then you can either go draigo/paladins, and use interceptor support, or buy more strike boxes and play a striker style list.

Love my grey knights!!! I would definitely pick up coteaz. I personally love terms. They survive, and benefit from coteaz more then strike squads. After that Drednaughts are a must. Hook them up auto cannons and bamm you got you 48 in range. Any way welcome to the brotherhood! Let us know what you get.

Ihighly recommend buying the codex first, and holding off on units for a while till youknow exactly what you want.

GK can do lots of playstyles, gun line, fast assault, and many mixes inbetween,

if you want lots of terminators this is the right army for you, you can feild a whole army of 2+

From a tournament perspective, you want Coteaz, henchmen, Rhinos/Razorbacks, and Dreadnaughts to make into Auto cannon dreads (known as Psyfledreads). Dreadknights and Stormravens are also very good, though not an "auto-include", depending on how you want to build your army.

A single box of Strike Squads and/or a single box of Terminators are also a good choice. I would hold off on more till you decide which route you want to take (henchmen, strike squads, or termies, or some combination of those)

Draigo and Paladins is not a top tier choice anymore, just be aware of that if you decide to go that route

Quick Grey Knight question, and I don't want to start another thread for it. I've built a Dreadnought, and am now unsure about the weapon I've attached. I'd assumed this was an autocannon, am I right?

Apologies for the paintjob.

Thanks, easysauce. It's not like I'll be rushing into any tournaments, but i hear it's a good gun, so was keen to have one.

Draigowing was never really a top tier army to begin with, however with 6th its just as good as any of the other options out there. Strike spam is probably better, maybe, until you play 3 helldrakes. If he wants he can go that way, it would be a challenge and you have to have a good selection of support units.

Well I ended up going with the Codex, box of terminators, and a dreadknight. I have some strikers and more terminators I can pick up at home so I plan to do that eventually. I've read through the codex and I have a decent understanding of what each unit does. Mainly wondering about these henchmen and how they fit into a strong GK list.

Good luck! I like how you can make a good list with only a few boxes, too...

I figure 2-3 boxes of termies, some strike squads, a vindicare, and maybe some dreadnoughts will seal the deal. Still working on a decent list idea.

I've been reading through the HQs in the codex and I saw Coteaz mentioned. I've read through his detail and I'm curious as to what makes him so strong?

He's points efficient for what he does, he makes the cheap henchman count as troops to help with model count, he has good psy mastery and can take divination, and he has a good anti-deepstrike/reserves ability. All of these things make him a popular choice.

Aye, been thinking of dropping Draigo for Coteaz myself...

Coteaz for his price is very wow.
