Hello everybody. I'm currently working on a project to make an army of Daleks played as Necrons. I've created this thread to get opinions, show progress, and answer questions about the process. I've had this project in mind for quite some time now but the only Dalek models I could find are almost $6 each and when you have as little money as me you need to think about scratch building what you can.

I plan to keep use Necron models for the warriors but Daleks of varying colors and types for the others. Now here's my big problem, assuming I do a good job modeling and painting the models, would anyone play against an army almost entirely scratch built? I know the tournament rules but what about you guys?

Anyways, I'll be making progress and posting pictures soon.

~Blessings.

I'd play!

Suggestion would be to use the GW round-top pots as a body for the daleks. Might be a smidge large, but it's approximately the right shape and size.

Or wander around the hardware or craft store and see what else is approximately the right shape. Drill holes and glue some metal or plastic BB's to the sides, add wire, paint, and bam.

OR check out these sources I quick Googled for:

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I'm pretty dedicated to attempting to make my own although some of those are beautiful and I thank you for the reply. I like the idea about using BBs I need to consider that one. Here's my first attempt at casting a sculpted Dalek. I lost quite a bit of detail in the mold and a lot of the bits are fragile so I'm trying to work on that with my next attempt.

If you are going to mold them, do it in multiple bits.

Basically, mold the main body and head (or as two separate pieces). Then use rod or separate molds for the appendages.

Do a Dalek/Cybermen alliance? Cybermen would make easy counts-as Warriors and Immortals. Or a whole army of various Dr Who villains?

Back in the olden days (mid-90s?), GW actually made a licensed sprue of Daleks and Cybermen - good luck finding any now though :(

If you're not up to moulding and casting your own Daleks, there are quite a few toy Daleks of the right scale, which would be a whole lot less work, so long as you can find some with nice clean moulding.

Good, if it's been done before it must be a good idea...right?

Ha! I just thought about this the other day. I saw some Daleks for sale on http://www.shapeways.com, a neat 3D printing site. Many things are prohibitively expensive so I don't know that these would work.

Awesome idea, I'd be glad to play against!

I certainly would play against a Dalek Necron army.

Here are some Dalek models you can get less than $6 each.

That's £10 for five. They are the 2010 "new paradigm" Daleks, which not everyone likes but can be painted a lot more rufty-tufty and being polystyrene can easily be cut up and converted.

They are fairly tall but if you cut the bottom plate down they will be pretty good on a Citadel base.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

That's good to hear. I know most of my friends would but it's good to know there are others out there ok with scratch built models.
