Hi all. I'm fairly new to WHFB, but I've played some 40k. I've started an ogre army and I've played a couple games, but it was only with the units from 1 battalion box.

I would like some help on making the best possible list out of what I have. This isn't for competitive, just friendly games, but I'd still like to make my army the best it can be.

Here is a list of what I have so far:

12x Ogres (with full command)
12x Ironguts (with full command)
6x Leadbelchers (could have Thunderfist and Bellower if needed)
2x Sabretusks
1x Hunter

Two models that I have kit-bashed to make some character models:

1x Bruiser (with standard for BSB)
1xSlaughtermaster / Butcher (could be fielded as either)

Then, if I'm allowed to use them half-assembled, I also have in the works:
2x Mournfang Calvary
1x Ironblaster

I don't see it being a problem being able to use them though.

My group doesn't mind proxying things around (so I could make my hunter something else, for instance), but this is what I'm limited to at the moment.

So here's what I'd like to do: make a good list with the top selection, then one with the calvary and blaster mixed in, just in case.

Here is the list I started with my (limited) knowledge of what to use:

12x Ogre ( Full command, Ironfists )
12x Ironguts ( Full command )
6x Leadbelcher
2x Sabretusk ( fielded seperately? )
Slaughtermaster ( Lvl 4 wizard, Ironfist )
Bruiser ( BSB, Ironfist )
Hunter

notes:
I have NO idea what to take or use for magic items. I haven't played a game that used them yet.
I'm not sure how to field some of these units. Where should the bruiser and slaughtermaster go? should they be on their own? What unit should they attach to if not?
What is best for ogres formation-wise? Should I run 3 ranks of 4 or 4 ranks of 3?

Any other assorted help/criticisms would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Really just open to any kinds of suggestions. I've only played a few games, so I'm not completely set on what I should use with Ogres. Here is the list that I played in a few games this weekend:

Slaughtermaster, Lvl4, ironfist, Dispel Scroll, Hellheart

Bruiser, heavy armor, ironfist, BSB, Wailing Banner
Hunter, obsidian blade

12x Ogres, full command, ironfists
12x Ironguts, full command, Banner of Discipline

6x Leadbelchers, champion and bellower

2x Sabretusks
2x Mournfang Calvary, heavy armor, ironfists, bellower, Dragonflame Banner

1x Ironblaster

Some of the choices were made simply to get the most points I possibly could and get me as close to 2.5k as I could. The list did ok against some of the things I played against. Until I ran into a block of High Elf Swordmasters. At that point my guys just crumpled.

My group is pretty lenient about stuff and understanding. I think next time I might use my hunter model to proxy in a Firebelly or something.

Suggestions/thoughts?

First the issue witht this list

Slaughtermaster, Lvl4, ironfist, Dispel Scroll, Hellheart <-- 2 arcane Items Shame on you
Hunter <-- Never found them to be worth it, but can be fun when placed in a unit of 10 Sabertusks.
BSB Better combos can be found.

Drop the champs, and an Iron gut, pick up a third Mornfang. (Worth their points in Teeth)

Other things to kit bash / pick up,
Second Bucher/firebelly - To carry the extra Arcane item!
More mornfang,
Knoblars Great chaff,
2nd Iron blaster

I changed things around a bit. Didn't realize at first that the Hellheart was arcane. lol Not sure how I missed that.
Took the hunter out.

What kind of combo would be better? Just looking for suggestions.

Unfortunately, I've got to play with what I have the models for at the moment, and I only have the 2 mournfang. Once I have the money/chance, they will be the next thing I purchase.

Here is my updated list:

Slaughtermaster, Lvl4 Fencer's Blades, Glittering Scales, Crown of Command

Firebelly, Lvl 2, Hellheart
Bruiser, BSB, ironfist Razor Banner

12x Ogres, full command, ironfists
12x Ironguts, full command, Standard of Discipline
10x Gnoblar, Trappers
10x Gnoblar, Trappers

6x Leadbelcher, Champion, Bellower
Sabretusk
Sabretusk
2x Mournfang, HA, Ironfists, Bellower, Dragonflame Banner

Ironblaster

Puts me just under 2500. Thoughts?

Here is the buid I have been running, and has done really well for me,

SM Lvl4,Talasmond of Preservation, Gutmaw armour, warror bane, and and enchanged shield.

Best possible protection with a 3+ 4++, Then he kills what ever he is up against. 90% of the time.

I like this build alot more, I tend to run the GreatMaw banner for magic protection, (Yes I know it does not work againts some of the spells, but once you tell poeple you have a 2+ deflection banner, then tend not to cast any magic on the unit.) Also drop a unit champ, and give your BSB Heavy armour and a shield to up his armour save.

Slaughtermaster, Lvl4 Fencer's Blades, Glittering Scales, Crown of Command

Firebelly, Lvl 2, Hellheart
Bruiser, BSB, ironfist Razor Banner

12x Ogres, full command, ironfists
12x Ironguts, full command, Standard of Discipline
10x Gnoblar, Trappers
10x Gnoblar, Trappers

6x Leadbelcher, Champion, Bellower
Sabretusk
Sabretusk
2x Mournfang, HA, Ironfists, Bellower, Dragonflame Banner

Ironblaster

I would drop the hunter and get some mournfangs and/or an ironblaster.

I'm still new to the game, so I may be wrong, but isn't taking Gutmaw and an enchanted shield illegal? Aren't those both considered an armor slot?
