Farseer Deathstar - Farseer (with both runes, Stones, jetbike, fortune, doom) attached on to - warlock lead jetbike squad.

I have been picking through the new Tau dex and can't help but think massed burst cannons and hoping for failed saves due to mass dice rolls is our only hope. Even then our suits (let alone the rest of our army) simply can't outmaneuver Eldar jetbikes rocking fleet and casting doom/guide.

Has anyone faced this yet with tau? Any ideas?

Fire warriors with ethereal. Lots of S5 shots will thin them down.

Riptide get into CC and laugh as they bounce off of your 2+ save and you challenge the farseer out of combat. You get smash so they have to test on a 4+ and you can even double out the farseer's toughness by sacrificing 1/2 of your attacks.

Not to mention in general jetcouncil is not very good these days and you can negate the cover/jink/invisibility boost that can make them more viable. They still bounce off any 2+ though and only have a 75% chance to make their 4++.

The real question you should be asking is how this unit could possibly cause you trouble? Anything that can ignore cover with AP 3 or better laughs at it, so just get a couple markerlight hits and let the Riptides eat it. Or bring crisis suits with a support commander to negate cover without markerlights.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

An eldar deathstar can destroy tau if it hits but we should have enough firepower to deal with it. Getting an invisible counsel is useless against us because of marker lights so I doubt they will even try. This means that they will be relying on their 4+ rerollable save. Luckily with markerlights we hit on 2s and wound on 2's with most of our stuff. And they will be making saves 75% of the time but each member is at least 60pts so they are not going to have a ton of them.

Once the deathstar unit gets fortune on them ( so go first) you can't really kill them unless you throw in more dakka than orks.

The Riptide is not an character, it cannot challenge. It's just an MC.

Oh, that doesn't really change much but is good to know. I just assumed...which is always bad. Thanks for the info.
