Not played this since the 80s, just picked up the novel and thought I had to find the game. GW still sell it so thought 'what the hell'....Of course it's for my son you understand

So......a "birthday present" for the son It's better then the lawnmowers and weed whackers I got from my father (though I remember not letting anyone else use the weed whacker for the entire summer....maybe that was part of the trick)

Welcome back to one of if not THE best games GW ever made.

Just thought you should know that Games Workshop is getting rid of their Specialist Games which includes Blood Bowl. So get in a grab what you need now.

Don't panic buy too much though. You can convert some great players from the current Warhammer miniature range.

There's also tons of 3rd party companies making teams. However, getting a boxed set gets a board, templates, etc. easily.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

Yup, and it won't be hard to find alternate Blood Bowl miniatures either (Impact!, Greebo, Neomics, etc.) Or if you prefer the official BB models (?!?), you can easily find them used on eBay. In the end, GW dropping their support of Blood Bowl probably won't have much impact on the game. For years, GW's 'support' has meant stonewalling updates to the rules set, selling outdated, overpriced, direct-only models, and threatening the coaches and third-party companies who actually do support the game. The best they can do now is to simply leave Blood Bowl alone.

But anyway, welcome back! I have to agree with Skriker's assessment: Blood Bowl is the best game GW ever produced. Like Chess, it's easy to pick up, but at the same time has an incredible amount of depth. Plus you can stomp on a guy while he's down, throw bombs and goblins, tear a defensive line in half with a chainsaw, and surf opposing players into the vicious crowd of spectators. All features Chess was sadly missing.

All the specialist games lines look like they remain up on Au GW website. Bloodbowl teams, cheerleaders etc, necro under gangs, all still there.

I too have recently got back into blood bowl and am so glad I did!

I have humans, orcs and dark elves and may end up with a few more teams before I am done!

check out comixininos.com for some blood bowl usable models.

They are not cheap but the models are amazing, especially their Lizardmen team and Kroxigor!

There's a Bloodbowl book? Wow!

Watched one of my Youtube people playing the video game version, and ever since then I've rather fallen in love with the game. It's really sad to hear that it's getting discontinued, I guess I'll have to accelerate my decision on whether to actually buy the starter or just wing it and play for free (I can bodge together pretty much everything except for the passing range template very easily, and I think that there are some online resources for passing distance)

Like watching other people play video games (badly) while blathering about nothing in particular? Check out my Youtube channel: joemamaUSA!

Most of the elf teams and minis are still readily available on GW's website. One of those few games where elves are not a heavily favored choice. Once they get some experience under their belts elven teams, especially wood elves can be pretty nasty. Nothing is worse than watching a wardancer run right up to the biggest guys on your line, jump over them, land with a flourish and keep running down the field. Even more annoying than the mutated gutter runner we had in one of our league seasons who could score in a single move from kickoff...THAT sucked...

Yes, I shall be purchasing some when payday comes along! Believe it or not I do own a pro elf team! I love how they play, AV7 doesn't bother me much as their awesome catchers make up for it! Not to mention their almost perfect blitzers (in my opinion at least). Am currently running as a human team in a league at my local gaming club... In a group with no less than 3 Orc teams, an Amazon team and of course a Skaven team. Unfortunately I am yet to fall victim to a gutter runner touchdown!

One of my 7 teams is a high elf team. We already had a regular wood elf player and dark elf player in our group so I decided to go the remaining elf route. They don't get as many of the crazy things the wood elves do, but can still hold their own when played smartly. I just have to remember when I am playing them that they are NOT my dwarf team. Playing elves as if they were dwarves is a good way to end up with a lot of broken elves.

I think High Elves look pretty good! Their thrower starting with safe throw is awesome! Haha yes, Elven teams don't really play the blocking game all that well I suppose... You have to be prepared to play short handed!

Apparently one guy I heard about got to live the dream with high elves and receive his own kickoff at one point.

Not saying you couldn't do that with other teams, but that's up there with the "pick up the ball, pass to your runner, throw him, score in one turn" levels of BS that underworld can put out (nobody cares about underworld though. They aren't even in the main rulebook).

Well goblins can do that second one without the pass...stunty catches the kick off, troll picks him up and throws him down field. Only negative are those occasional times that the troll decides to eat the goblin instead.
