Wasn't happy with the old base so thought I'd try using slate.
Base cut from sheet Perspex
Added slate from free source
Skulls, skeleton and sword from hero quest game
Rat from same source.
My first attempt at slate basing, all feedback greatly appreciated

I like it overall, the only thing that gets me is the sword on the ground, I think it makes the base look a bit too busy, but thats just me. Otherwise it looks good, the skulls and torso fit the theme well, and Abaddon looks great too. I think the muted base colours and the bone of the skull accents Abaddons colours nicely, and provides some contrast too really make Abaddons paint job pop.

Thanks. I had the same thoughts. You just confirmed it for me. The sword has to go

Nice, I like that alot more, and it looks like the sword was covering some rock terrain detail too. I felt like the red sword just took attentiaon away from abaddons somewhat limited colour, not that hes supposed to be bright or anything. Perfect in my eye now man, great work!

Thanks mate. I kind of felt the same. The sword was there because my stepson thought it needed more.
Last time I accept advice from a 12 year old. Lol

I like where you are trying to go with it, I just think it lacks the certain gravitas that Abaddon deserves, maybe more height to it would have just added that little x-factor it is lacking, for me personally anyway. But by know means am I saying you have done a bad job, it is done really nicely, I just think it could do with that little bit more. Have you thought about layering cork up, then painting it to look like slate?

Yep. Thought about it and decided against it. I get my slate for free so as this as a first attempt I kept it low key. Sorry if that sounds arrogant, it wasn't supposed to, but as I live in a slate mining area I can pick the stuff up off the street
P.s: it's my first try at using real slate

Fair enough then, can't argue with free. Curious though, were in the UK is that, I didn't think we had any mining left in Britain, or has it begun opening up again now Maggie has gone
