This is continuing the 6th Edition analysis of the Codex: Chaos Marines, the first part of which can be seen here

Autocannons are strength 7... not 8.

I usually put the squad in an Aegis Defense Line and buy the Icarus Lascannon. I then buy 4 lascannons and put the Champ on the Icarus Lascannon.

Not as many shots but much better for killing monsters and blowing up stuff with armor.

By the way... I love your article, I check it now every time I build a list.

Thanks for the comments yeah I often get Autocannons mixed up, considering that they can be S8 in Grey Knight lists, of which I used to have one. The Lascannon option is good, but very expensive, coming to almost 300pts I believe.

A note on the Oblits entry: I run them quite a bit, and I always take vets of the long war... not for the benefits in combat but because they have lost fearless and need the LD boost. The one point of LD goes a long way, because a 70+ point unit running of the board can be devastating. Especially in 3 man squads. MON is similarly essential.

Regarding Havocs, when you say "...Lascannons can be taken for cheaper elsewhere." What are the other options?

Looking forward to seeing the rest of this.

Particularly what you and others think of Maulerfiends.

So far...I'm loving the idea of Autocannon Havocs, though.

Ah, I don't think I phrased that correctly, I'll have to go back and change that.

What I meant was "more effectively" instead of cheaper, so by that I mean Obliterators and Predators.

Hi Valkyrie, just 2 minor things:

1. The link in your signature for Part Two leads to this thread, rather than the Article itself. If that's intentional as it's a work-in-progress, nevermind!

2. For Part Two, have you already considered including good Allies as part of the discussion? Just an idea, like I want to make Iron Warriors, and have been wondering if I should take Imperial Guard artillery to fit their siege theme. I'm open to suggestions, but that's the sort of ideas I as a reader would pay attention to.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

1: Oops, I was a bit drunk at the time. Fixed.

2: I hadn't considered Allies at all to be honest. Thanks for the suggestion

Apologies for the lack of updates at the moment. Moving my stuff back home from uni has resulted in my Codex wandering off.

Thank you Morskul, I hope this will be of help to many more people.

On a larger note, the article will be having a short hiatus starting Saturday. I'll be in China for a month so I'll only be adding little bits at a time when I have free time.

Today's update is coming all the way from Shanghai, with Vindicators and Predators added, rounding off the Chaos Army List. I have plans to extend it to the Chaos-specific Apocalypse units, or I might just go onto the Armoury.

Haha. Thanks for giving fairly unbiased readouts. Am very curious why you are nation hopping, but the articles are good.

First off great articles, I have been playing 40k for a long time when I decided to startup a CSM army and this has helped me considerably switching to a new army. I have been checking with anticipation for your ideas on competitive army lists(ETA ). I sadly don't get to play often enough to test out all of my different ideas so your guide has been exteremly helpful. Thanks again for the great info, please hurry up with the rest
