Playing a grudge-match against a regular opponent. My Imperial Guard versus his Orks. 750 points per side, Cleanse type mission. Veteran w/ Company Standard, Laspistol & CCW. 72 Troops Infantry Platoon 1 Command Squad: Junior Officer w/ Plasma Pistol & Close Combat Weapon. 4 Guardsmen w/ 2 Lasguns & 2 Meltaguns. Drop Troops. 70 Infantry Squad 1: 10 Men w/ 9 Lasguns & Missile Launcher. 75 Infantry Squad 2: 10 Men w/ 9 Lasguns & Missile Launcher. 75 Conscript Platoon: 30 Conscripts w/ 3 Flamers. 147 Heavy Support Leman Russ Battle Tank: Hull Heavy Bolter. 145 Leman Russ Battle Tank: Hull Lascannon & Sponson Heavy Bolters. 165 60 Infantry 749 2 Tanks Ork force HQ Warboss w/ Choppa and Slugga. Perhaps Tankbusta bombz. Elites ?Ardboyz: around 20 with Sluggas, Choppas, 3 Big Shootas Troops Shoota Boyz: 18 with Shootas, 3 Big Shootas Tankbustas: around 10 with 3 Rokkits and Tankbusta Bombz. (Warboss joins them) Heavy Support Looted Basilisk w/ Indirect Fire. We were playing on a relatively small table. He won choice of Depolyment Zone, and first turn. The board was covered in Wrecks and 2 woods (1 in each DZ). I deployed my Tanks in firing lanes, Squad 1 in a wreck, squad 2 in the Woods, the CHQ in between the 2 (shielded by Russ and Wreck) and the Conscripts went in front of Russ 1. The PHQ would Deepstrike after the Bassie. Turn 1 He moved up Shoota Boyz, Tankbustas (+ Warboss) [Left of table] and Ard Boyz [right of table]. The Basilisk shot, and killed 2 Conscripts. The Shoota Boyz killed a further 2 Conscripts. The Conscripts moved out into the open. Russ 1 took a few Shoota Boyz out with a direct hit. Russ 2 killed a few ?Ardboyz with another direct hit. Squads 1, 2 and CHQ opened up with Frag Missiles, killing several Shoota Boyz. Turn 2 He moved the Shoota Boyz backwards, and the Ardboyz and Tankbustas (+Warboss) forwards. The Tankbustas went into the Lefthand woods, and the Ardboyz into the righthand wreck. Basilisk fails Looted Check, and surges 8?, immobilising itself in the Woods. Shoota Boyz killed another couple of Conscripts, and the Ardboyz killed 2 Guardsmen from Squad 2. No reserves enter. Moved my Conscripts up again. Russ 1 shot at the Shoota Boyz again, killing some more (slight scatter). Russ 2 took out a few more Shoota Boyz (slight scatter). Squads 1, 2 and CHQ fired upon the Shoota Boyz too ? all but 1 missile miss, and no Orks died. Conscripts attack the Tankbustas (+Warboss) in the woods. A single Flamer took out 2 Orks and wounded the Warboss. The 46 Lasgun shots (rapid fire) then took out 1 more Tanbusta, and finished off the Warboss (I could only see these 3 models in the terrain). Unit flees. Turn 3 Moved the ?Ardboyz around the Wreck slightly. Tanbustas rally. The ?Ardboyz kill around 5 Conscripts, and the Shoota Boyz kill about 3 more. They fall back 4?. The Basilisk shot at Russ 2, missed, but killed the Lasgunners from the CHQ. PHQ comes in, no scatter. Conscripts rally, and move forwards. CHQ moves out to give boosted Ld to them. Russes miss the Shoota Boyz (dual 6? scatter). Missiles pick off around 5 Shoota Boyz. PHQ manages to miss with everything. Turn 4 Moves Tankbustas back to try to take out PHQ. Shoots with Rokkit and all the Sluggas ? all miss. Basilisk hits Russ 2, and immobilises it. Shoota Boyz and Ardboyz kill a few more Conscripts, who pass Ld check and stay put. Tankbustas charge the PHQ, and wipe them out, no losses to the Orks. Conscripts move again, as does CHQ. Tanks open up on the ?Ardboyz, and take them down to around 7 Boyz. Missiles kill off 1 more. ?Ardboyz fail Morale AND Mob Size, and fall back 10?. Turn 5 Tankbustas left standing around. Ardboyz fail Morale, and JUST fail Mob size too. Basilisk shoots at Russ 2, shooting the Battlecannon off. Shoota Boyz open up on the Conscripts, killing a few more. Conscripts move up. CHQ moves as well. Russ 1 opens up on Shoota Boyz, and despite a scatter (3?) manages to get around 4. Russ 2 uses Heavy Bolters and Lascannon to take out 3 more Ard Boyz. 2 Missile Launchers kill another, the mob fall back off the table. Conscripts out of Rapid Fire range. TIME CALLED. Post-Battle Assessment Me Command HQ - 2 Casualties (Lasguns). Platoon HQ ? Wiped out. Squad 1 ? 2 Casualties (Lasguns). Squad 2 ? 5 Casualties (Lasguns). Conscripts ? 16 Casualties (Lasguns). Leman Russ 1 ? Intact Leman Russ 2 ? Immobilised and lost Battle Cannon Orks Warboss ? Dead. ?Ardboyz ? Wiped Out. Shoota Boyz ? Down to 2 Big Shoota Orks - falling back. Tankbustas ? 3 Casualties, (2 with Rokkits). Looted Basilisk ? Immoblised. Result Glorious victory for the Imperial Guard. Orks almost wiped out entirely. Had we played the 6th turn, I would have killed/force to flee the Tankbustas and Shoota Boyz would have fled. The Conscripts would have moved into range to hit the Basilisk?s side armour with the Flamers (6 hits), likely destroying it. Things that won me the game: 1) Leman Russes - and unnerving accuracy (most of the time) 2) Cover Saves 3) Close Order Drill
