So I'm considering building a Drop Pod army. Not really sure if I should bother as the new Marine dex is due in a few months anyways. I'm looking over the Honor Guard Squads and they seem pretty good. I'd set up my army so they would be part of the first wave and lay down a ton of bolter fire then charge in turn 2. The rest of the first wave would be 3x Sternguard Squads with Combi-Weapons and a Company Command Squad with each guy carring a meltagun and flamer. I want to make up a hard as nails close combat Captian with Thunder Hammer, Storm Sheild and Artificer Armour to lead the Honour Guard. The Honour Guard will be unlocked by Kantor who will be camping back field with all the guys that unlocked a lot of empty drop pods. Haven't built the list yet but thtas the direction its heading.

So has anyone used these guys and how would you load them out I'm thinking a mix of Axes and Swords but what else.

Seems the list you're thinking of is gonna be costly. Honor guards don't come cheap and lack an invulnerable save. Sterns aren't cheap either but have a good shootty punch.
I would say try to build the list first and see what you can fit, then we can give you better feedback.

I think that honor guard are overcosted, still pretty mediocre in combat for the price you are paying. I think TH/SS termies are better. Don't you need a chapter master to field them anyways? Also, Lysander is the best combat option in the codex, by far.
