The topic says it all, but I want to add a little more. I split the Hordes Starter Set with a friend. I got the rulebook from the starter set and the rulebook was hardly used at all because one of my friends knows all of the rules so we just asked him for help if we forgot something or didn't know. Now when I finally got to reading the Mini Rulebook certain pages started to tear from the binding until they came off. I am not rough with my books and I always make sure they are well taken care of, but the book fell apart as I read it and I always make sure to not fully open a book or bend the pages.

Is this a normal occurrence with their mini rulebooks? Do they just suck this bad with all of their books or did I get the off funky one? Do the Hard Cover books hold together well? I'm considering getting the Hard Cover rulebook, but I'm not 100% sold because of what just happened with my mini rulebook.

Well I've got the hard cover warmachine book, and a soft cover hordes one, and they are both doing just fine. I've had them for about a year and used them quite a bit, so maybe it's just their soft books, or perhaps its just that you got unlucky. Or that I'm quite lucky.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

I have every book PP has ever put out except the character primer and they are all doing fine. They sometimes get handled a bit rough - I bring them to larger demo events. Note that they are all hardcover.

I have a hard cover Prime and a soft cover faction book, and both seem pretty well made to me, and they've held up through a fair bit of flipping through without anything falling off (and the Prime was second hand on top of that).

So either it's just the mini-rule book in general, or it's just the one you have is a bit dodgy. If I were you, I'd ask PP for a replacement - they're usually pretty good about that sort of thing.

Since most of you guys have had a good experience with their books it means either the mini rulebooks suck or I got a bad copy. I'll give this a shot. Thanks. I'll let you guys know what they say once I get a reply.

My Warmachine Mini rule book has been treated roughly and it's fine.
I think you were just unlucky and got a bad book, PP will probably be happy to send a replacement.

There are only two mini-rulebooks, and you can only get them in the starter sets.

They are a great resource and small enough to take and use at tournaments or game nights, but the full size books have fantastic art work, stats on a lot of every faction's models (except Retribution and Convergence), and fluff. OMG, the fluff is great.

I'd suggest that if your mini rulebook is falling apart, take it to FedEx/Kinko's or some other office copy store, and get it spiral bound. Will cost you about $5. I printed out some artwork on thick cardstock, laminated it, used that as the front and back cover, and then spiral bound my mini rulebook. Total cost: $20.

We have both the mini rulebooks and they've both had issues with pages coming loose. They're much more convenient than the larger ones, but unfortunately they don't seem to be bound very well at all. We haven't had any problems with the large books, though.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

None of my PP books have fallen apart even with moderate use. Which is more than I can say for some GW books even with light use.

GW books are of spotty quality IMO.

PP seems to be much more consistent in the quality of the binding. Of course you can always get a bad one every now and then.

Anecdotal evidence yes, but I've had my mini rulebook from the Warmachine 2 player starter set since it came out and it still holds up. I'd definitely go through the PP's replacement process.

i have the large softcover rulebook and i dont treat it as well as i probably should lol and its still intact and pretty looking. Granted its not as expensive or important as say the 40k rulebook, which i carry around like a holy grail when im playing that since ive NEVER had a game of 40k where i didnt have to ref the book for something...usually to disprove an opponent's cheesey claims. Theres so many confusing rules if you cant show them the page they wont budge....WMH basic rules are so easy and simple that its not really a problem lol.
Though i have to admit no matter how many times i read Throwing i still go "wiat how does this work?"

I had my mini rulebook for like a long ass time for no problem

Then I lend it to a friend so a week he can learn the rules and the cover page comes off

Seems like the mini rulebooks tend to be of ok quality and can fall apart. Hopefully Privateer Press replies soon, but from the warning on their website I don't see them responding anytime soon.

I thought I should let you all know that the status of my ticket has been changed to "Shipped" so I should be receiving a new rulebook sometime soon.
