I started dabbling with 40k close to 6 months ago. A friend of mine who is getting out of college realized I was looking for a gaming hobby that wasn't video games and naturally this and MTG have been wonderful for getting away from the TV. About two months ago I decided my first (and probably only) army will be orks. I am a fan of fun and orks seemed to be full of all brands of it and so it seems they are a good food for me. I'm the kind of gamer that knows a Big Mek with a KFF is probably optimal but have instead given mine a Shokk attack gun because I find trollerific amounts of fun in things that roll to fail or do well. In fact, most of the things I wanted to do first involved the Big Mek with SAG, Warphead, Flash Gitz, Lootas, Big Gunz (Zzap Cannons), and in an age that shoota boyz are better I will still be fielding at least 60 Slugga/Choppa boyz because I think it's orky. The kind of guy who is putting a ram on my Trukk's and will ram an AV14 vehicle not because it's in anyways tactically sound or smart, but because I know an Ork would do it. I like supporting my local store. However, I have had trouble getting the gitz I want, so I figured it couldn't be any more orky to just start getting the stuff I need to make 1850 lists based on what they just have on the shelves when I go in. So I've ended up with some Stormboyz, Lots of Boyz, a Mad Dok, some gretchin, Lootas, a couple trukks, a battlewagon, tankbustas, pretty much a big mix of an army and even though it isn't optimal I will start showing up to my local store for games soon.
I hope to spend time in your Ork related forums contributing my good humor and the miniature painting area as I start taking my first steps toward painting models. Hopefully by now my avatar shows up, he is my first chop/paste job that I'm really proud of and hopefully says something about the kind of gamer I am.
