So I have been doing research about the 'Forge World' Ryza today, mostly for a project I hope to do in the future but more on that later. However the information I have found has been sparse. There is plenty of evidence for the 'Forge World' being proficient in plasma technology. And there is also plenty of information on some ork incursions onto the planet, one of which is on going according to some sources. There is also a Titan legion based on the world http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Legio_Crucius#.Uf1-U5KG2So,

But there are some questions as to the planet its self, some people have vaguely referenced the planet being more of an R&D world. Meaning it would have a significantly lower degree of pollution on the planet meaning that there would still be some life left, abet only the most hardy of species of plant. In fact some go so far as to say that it is heavily forested still.

So I guess my questions would be:

1. Would a planet such as this raise a guard regiment? For my future project i'd love to do a armour regiment of pure Leman Russ Exterminators (as thats the only variant the plant produces and its the only one iirc that does) with a stormblade or two.

2. IF they did raise a regiment what would their colour scheme be? Would it mimic the Titan legions Black & White?

3. If forge worlds do not raise guard regiments would it be fluff wise be right to assume that the forge world would kit out a regiment being raised on a near by world? After all that regiment would likely be deployed to defend Ryza from those tiresome orks, so ensuring that the people defending them have some top notch gear is reasonable right?]

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated, perhaps I have missed some source or another and need a fresh set of eyes on this.

What exactly Ryza is depends on what source you're looking at. A planet by this name has been described as a Jungle World once, too. It is important to keep in mind that with 40k, looking at multiple sources has a very high chance of yielding conflicting information when it comes to details.
(alternatively, there really are two Ryzas - hey, it's the Imperium )

That being said - going by Codex fluff, Forge Worlds are Mechanicus territory, and thus do not raise regiments for the Imperial Guard as normal planets do. However, they are a prime supplier of arms and equipment, and the Guard Codex mentions how Forge Worlds are often visited by troop transports that have just recently tithed personnel for service in the Guard, and then gather at a staging area nearby a Forge World where they take on additional arms and munitions.

Also, of course Forge Worlds raise their own PDF as any other world does, but these are called Skitarii or Tech Guard, operate under supervision of the Cult Mechanicus itself, and occasionally deploy offworld for duties such as escorting Explorator missions or providing protection for a Titan redeployment.

I can anwser a few.

1. Forge Worlds dont raise guard regiments. They raise Skitarii for their own defence http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Skitarii#.Uf2pKpKpqfU The amount of augumentics and equipment can vary a lot from forgeworld to forgeworld, so its possible to use Guards as a representation of them.

2. Colour schemes will most likely be based of the Mechanicum colours, so dust red, brass coloured and things like that. Its fully possible for them to mimic the colours of the Legion, since Skitarii are also deployed alongside Titans as support, so they could adopt the colours of the army group/Titans.

3. Its fluffy to asume that Ryza equips local regiments as the go-to Forgeworld of the area. But its not really likely they will only get Exterminators, most armoured regiments are equipped with a variety of tanks, so as to be flexible. In the event of Ryza itself being attacked (not sure if its still ongoing now), they would probably supply most of their own Skitarii with the first loads of gear. Its possible that Guard regiments on Ryza are equipped from Ryza itself, but most get equipped en-route, so the possibility of Ryza being able to do that may be questionable. If you like it its not much of a stretch to just say that all their original tanks were lost in combat over time and replaced with what was locally available: the Exterminators.

So in conclusion it can be done. If you like it, just go with it, thats the most important thing.

Thanks for your responses guys. So I guess I will find a world near Ryza that has the capacity to raise a guard regiment, although skittarii sound cool but Id be creating an armour regiment with perhaps some mech vets thrown in or something .

So I could assume that the regiment was deployed to Ryza to aid in the defence but after the orks were defeated. To cover for the losses the regiment suffered in the fighting the Forge World produced them up some nice new gear.

More thought required, thanks for the info though appreciated it, especially the fact that there could be two planets called Ryza would explain some strange stuff I read.

If you're going for a Ryza theme, bring plenty of plasma.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.
