I am an Eldar player and I played with alot of eldar pathfinders in 5th. The way they always got killed was mass shooting. Throw as many bulets as you can spare at them and force them to make their saves. They can't not roll 1's eventually. The same goes for terminators. They have to roll a 1 sometime. So my question is this...
With a Tau Farsight bomb having their crazy 2+ cover save when they deepstrike would a good way for them to be taken out be through high volume of shots? I was thinking of deepstriking 3 full units of warpspiders right next to them and lighting them up before jumping into cover save with their jump packs (thank you battle focus). Another strategy i could see is hold your army in reserve with an autarch. Bring out just as much as you need to harass what they have (- the farsight bomb) and then when the bomb drops let loose the hounds they weren't able to shoot at due to being in reserve?
I feel like force the saves is deffinately a way to go but I also think a small froup of fire dragons with the flamer exarch in a wave serpernt in reserve could be a way to go as well. Sped up to the farsight bomb, unload the dragons and let loose the flames.
What do you guys think of something like this? Is this a viable option for eldar to counter the bomb? I really dont like having to tailor a list against something like that but after playing so many farsight bombs I am starting to not see any other option besides not playing against Tau ever.

In the diviation tree, there is a spell to ignore cover. I would try to get that on one of your psykers and then the farsight bomb is just a blob of 3+ armor saves.

The caveat is that power works on the psyker and their unit. So that power can't be applied to a vehicle, for example. It's a good power, but somewhat limited.

Vs. Farsight bomb, Blast as much as you can turn 1, Spend turn 2 zipping to the corners of the map and make him choose which unit to destroy. When it's your turn, kite him. He has no range.
700+ pts (800 with ShadowSun) means it's around 1/2 or 1/3rd his army. Even with split fire his range is around 15" for the dangerous stuff.

Unless the Farseer is attached to Fire Dragons, then Misfortune (re roll saves) would be better against a Farsight bomb. But Wraithguard with Flamers in a Serpent should do bad things to them!

And that is why my Eldar army goes for large quantities of high AP shots. Sure you get your 2+ armour but against that many shots you are going to fail. Plus the added bonus of pseudo-rending with shuri-weapons.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

i'd love to face the farsight bomb with my orks - 2 mobs of burna boys in wagons, everything else shootaboys. he ain't walking away next turn.
high volume's always a winner, as is this wonderful old fashioned thing called walk-over-and-hit-it. charging them with a unit of CC specialists will almost certainly stop them.

Apparently the new Legion of the Damned ignore cover as well makes any LOTD heavy weapons nasty against the bomb?

Eldar have a huge number of great anti-farsight weapons. A short list is;
-wraithscythes will wipe a farsight bomb in short order(a WS with its butt to the wall will absorb alot of the farsight bomb firepower)
-wraithknight can catch and charge a farsight bomb, they have issues actually killing a WK especially if you get a FnP or Inv save on it.
-WS shields get rid of the cover and make them deal with a 3+ against volume of fire
-Runes of Battle Primaris: Conceal has a second mode which removes shroud...what is better than volume of fire against a 2+++, volume of fire against a 4+++
-layered defenses: make the farsight bomb DS near something worthless then envelope him in warpspiders/jetbikes so he cannot move away, it is easier to kill a farsight bomb in CC as they have a 3+ rather than a 2+++
Some of the advise in the thread is not bad. You can spread out so he cannot kill much in a single turn. I would not count on getting a specific power though, it is more like if you do get it keep it mind.
Volume of fire can definitely work against 2+++ saves but you need something cheap with lots of firepower. Warwalkers can kind of do this and spiders are not bad but they are not hugely efficient. The above options are much more point efficient and provide other benefits. If you need to you definitely can kill a farsight bomb with spiders and warwalkers though.

One of the problems with volume of fire against the Farsight bomb is that the unit typically has 10-12 gun drones as ablative wounds. So yes, eventually they will roll 1's, but by the time those 1's get through to the actual meat of the list, they've done bad things to the rest of your army.
Assaulting also isn't all that effective, as they will (if built correctly) have Hit and Run with I5, so it's very likely that they just absorb some wounds, then bounce out of combat and go on their merry way. I played a game, just to see how the Farsight Bomb list works, where I made some horrible movement mistakes and got the squad charged by 3 Wraithknights at the same time, and they killed a good chunk of the squad, but enough survived that they just kept flitting around killing everything.

you have to assign wounds evenly across all units that can be seen. you can't assign all the wounds to the big guys and just make a drone take it. with units of split models like that you have to assign the wounds so he cant just stick them all on his drones like that and if he does then he will run out of drones quite quickly. I am talking putting volumes into that unit. Warp Spiders have a pretty good shooting skill with S6 guns. putting 60 shots from the spiders into them followed by whatever long range weaponry such as a scatter laser and wave serpent shields followed by flaming wraithguard i feel will make short order of any drones and eat into the unit. I feel a fire prism will shake things up in there as well. S5 large blast = toasty low toughness drones.

If scatter lasers have the same profile as in the old codex (sorry I quit eldar and went over to chaos when 6th ed came out) then why not use them? They have a large amount of high strength shots and aren't bad weapons for their cost imho, doesn't remove the problem but could give them something to consider? The warp spider idea isn't a bad idea either.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but it sounds like you are describing the way 5th edition handled wound allocation. In 6th the wounds are taken by the closest model, so all the Tau player has to do is put the drones in the front and the drones will take the brunt of the shooting wounds. It's actually pretty easy to make sure that drones go down first.
60 shots from spiders = 40 hits = 33.33 Wounds = 5.555 Unsaved wounds
So that kills off roughly half the drones, assuming you get all 3 squads into range at the same time (which isn't guaranteed by any means).
Edit: Also the ICs always pass LOS rolls, so they can hang out in front and then just pass the wounds back to the drones if necessary as well.

Well, with a squad of ~23 models, it's near impossible to give the entire squad a cover save, meaning at least some of that is going to be a 4+++, and somebody is going to be taking a lot of dangerous terrain tests. So if it comes to it, just focus fire on the models without a 2+++
So things that work well, a warlock that removes shrouded and then spamming shots that ignore saves (or just shots in general)
Wraithguard with those flamers of death (best option in my opinion)
Ignoring it an murdering the troops and pathfinders.
Also, keep in mind that the entire blob is going to have TL and ignores cover, so jumping into stuff to get a save on the spiders isn't going to help you any

This is exactly why you need to get cover stripping and some melee into it. The nice thing about charging the farsight bomb with a wraithknight is that the farsight bomb is not great at killing the WK unless and until they start using the entire firepower of the unit to try. They can also be "chased" out of their 18" fussion blaster ranges with the WK and melee threats.
A single warlock stripping shroud can really ruin a farsight bomb's day.

Oh absolutely, ignores cover will wreck that unit hard.
I'm also of the opinion that the unit is significantly less effective when they can't use an SM Libby with GoI to jump around, so when the SM book comes out in a couple weeks I think it's going to severely gimp any sort of farsight bomb list.

Ive heard of these things called warp hunters. I heard if you reserve them, bring them on after the enemy deepstrikes (autarch or farseer can both manipulate reserves) and use a wound-on-2 ap2 Distort flamer template with 6" torrent on them, its quite effective. Especially with multiples.
Either that or D-scythes on wraithguard. Sure, its wound-on-4s, but that still gets rid of quite a few if you are hitting 4-5 models (probably more) per flamer. The drones take the non-id wounds fist, then you go on to ID on the suits.

Scatter Lasers (especially on Wave Serpents) have gotten better. They are cheaper, have the same profile, and if you get at least one hit, the rest of the model's weapons are twin-linked.

While the entry appeared in the preview of the book, there is no entry in IA Apoc 2013 for warp hunters. Here are the eldar related entries in the table of content (from the digital copy):
Cloudstrike squadron

The pheonix court of Khaine
Phantom Titan
Revenant Titian
Sunstorm Squadron
Windrider Host
Wraithknight Dreamwalker Squad
The warp hunter changes were not included in the book. Therefore the newest edition of warp hunters rules are IA: 11 version that were reprinted in IA: Apoc 2nd ed.

A combination of advice from this man here is by far the best option the Eldar Codex has against the Farsight bomb. Take Wraithguard with D-Scythes in a Wave Serpent and if you have the points (or are Iyanden!), a Spiritseer too to Spirit Mark them. Then just do your best to make sure the Wave Serpent is in a decent position to move up to the bomb and disembark within range in a single turn (which requires a fair bit of prediction).
The D-scythes ignore both the suits' armour saves AND cover saves, and being templates they're putting down a couple of wounds each. You have a real chance of wiping the unit out in one go, including Farsight himself. If there are any left, you have a couple more options - the Wave Serpent's shields, or just straight-up charging if Farsight himself is down as the suits will have real trouble against S6/T6/3+, and the Spiritseer will do damage in return.

Oh good advice. I totally forgot the spiritseer spirit mark ability.
That would help quite a bit as well as the fact that you will either get the battle focus power (making it easier to get into position) or conceal (allowing your other weapons to help finish the unit).
