Good eve dakka, i was reading about the EC and Fulgrim earlier andthe article mentioned the Istvaan III atrocity where Horus, Fulgrim, Angron, and Mortarion purged the ranks of their legionsof anyone who might of remained loyal to the Emp. Thats all good and well and known, but it started me thinking, did the other 5 legions who also turned have to purge any loyalists? Is this stated somewhere? Ive only read about 1/2 to 2/3 of the HH series so perhaps a book i havnt read talks about it? Also i cant find any mention of it on Lexicanum.... so anyone know the answer or a source for the answer? Thanks!

I've always wondered this myself. I sort of assume they killed off those not loyal to the Primarchs. Though they only thing I can think of to back this up is that in one of the WB 40K novels they talk about starting a second culling, so I always assumed they had one earlier taking out all their loyalists.

Yes you are correct about the WB, if i remember the guy from First Heretic, the first Gal Vorbak says something along the lines of the WB sent toCalth were suppose to die because they were disposable to Lorgar because of their hatred of the ultramarines and so those was supposed to be a 2nd or 3rd purge of that legion... but idk what the first ones were....that source cites Betrayer and Argel Tal saying that to Kharn, but it doesnt say when or what the first purges were

The first purge is when Lorgar takes over on Colchis, purging the ranks of the Covenant.

The second Purge is when the Colchisian Word Bearers remove the Terran Space Marines from their ranks, with pointy things.

The 3rd purge is where Kor Phaeron tried to regain substantial power of the legion from Erebus.

We know about the World Eaters, Sons of Horus, Emperors Children and Death Guard. The Night Lords were pretty much comprised of scum, so I don't believe they had a purge, they were already too far gone. Iron Warriors might have various Warsmiths scattered across the Imperium, lIke Dantioch, that remained loyal and were either killed or escaped. But actually within the Legion and would say they followed their Primarch and after Olympia they believed they had no where else too turn to.

The Alpha Legion is tricky as it's very complicated.

Thousand Sons were pushed into being disloyal so I also think that they did not have internal conflict.

What I would like to know is if there were elements of the loyalists that wanted to follow Horus as with the

In the Prince of Crows, Sevatar is talking to another legionary and he brings up a conversation he had with Curze.

"I asked him why he never purged the legion like Horus did to his Sons or Angron did to the World Eaters. You know what he told me? He told me 'I wouldn't know where to start.'"

Good old Curze

I think though, if there were loyalist elements in the Night Lords, they would have been pretty easy to spot.

"Go forth and pillage/murder/terrify...Death to the false emperor!"

1 Night Lord at the back
"Ermmm, why? that seems a bit harsh. I mean, what have they ever done to us? and the emperor is just sat on his throne doing nothing, what does it matter if he's false anymore? He's just a big space torch"

The next scene, the doubter is leading the charge.

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

Yeah, the Night Lords were no doubt so far gone as a whole that any loyalists in their ranks would have been very small in number and easily just purged whenever they were spotted. There wouldn't be a need to conjure some scheme to wipe them out because there wasn't a chance they could form an organized resistance, like, say, Loken and Torgaddon in the Sons of Horus, or Saul Tarvitz in the Emperor's Children.

Plus, they were already on their way to becoming the piratical renegades the Chaos marines are now. Even those not particularly loyal to the Warmaster or their Primarch were in it for the chance to sate their bloodlust and fight in a massive war like the Heresy.
