we play 550 games in our group to establish new tactics, and learn about the core units of our armies, so we can build up and play better. Well my friend runs a flyer in his 550 dark angels list, a dark talon I think, and I'm not sure how to deal with it... I can wreck it in bigger games of 1000+ points with a soulgrinder, but at 550, I really can't see any use for a soulgrinder except for taking up points and maybe shooting that flyer.
What else could I take instead of a soulgrinder, for less points? let me know
thanks everyone.

What is your HQ choice? Remember FMCs have Vector Strike and can choose to use Skyfire.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

While not less point, heres some AA options that still can score.
Horrors with a Herald that adds +1 Str to psychic attacks. If you get a big enough pack of them, and depending on the Herald, all using Flickering Fire is 4-8D6 Str 6 shots. Herald can take Prescience too.
Can go Defense Line and Lasconnon with Blood letters with Herald. Herald is manning the gun.

Point for point, you can't get better anti air than a Soul Grinder. Maybe a Lash Prince but then you're looking at 240 points for one model in a 500 point game.
Grinders are also awesome in combat and their maw weapons add loads to an army with almost no shooting ability.
Get used to using Grinders in every game because they bypass a lot of the rules that can ruin Daemons. No Daemonic Instability for example. Grinders of Tzeentch or Nurgle can't be hurt by the Warp Storm table.

A Grinder is going to be very useful in low point games, and not just for shooting at flyers.
Not many armies can take enough stuff to deal with AV13 walkers below 1000 points.
Its going to be even more nasty than that flyer is.

Just as long as it doesn't have to get into melee with a Monstrous Creature.
Those things *hard counter* walkers.

11 pink horrors with an exalted locus herald pump out an obscene amount of str 6 shots. Dark talons are...AV 11 I think? Maybe 10? Either way, 3d6 shots from the pink horrors, another 2-3d6 shots from the herald, all twin linked from prescience, should be enough to mess up a 2 hullpoint flyer pretty well.
