I've been playing around with my Sternguard and Vanguard kits lately trying to make the most of the customisability and detail of the new kits to make new and interesting marines.

So far finished is Veteran Sergeant Brutus, pointing out his challenger ready to duel:

I like the concept and pose, but a few things stick out...

-In the first shot, between his pose and expression, he looks like he's tripping over a rock. This is awesome. Also, you paint faces much better than I can.

-Better photos please! Maybe white paper behind, and more light.

-I like the details on the wreath and the chain, and the leg. Well done!

Now I need to go buy those boxes so I can kitbash too!

Sorry, my light box is still in a moving box, possibly in another box. Attempting something with paper and kitchen roll as a half way measure:

The rock is molded onto his foot, though I may have buried it a little in the dirt which could lend to the tripping issue.

Thanks for the compliments too!

The new shots are better quality, thanks! Makes the model stand out a bit more.

What did you use on the head of the hammer? It's a nice metallic look.

Cheers, The hammer head is Gorthor Brown, Sycorax Brass, Golden Griffin Dry and a bit of agrax to shade.

Nice stuff, he certainly looks cross with whoever is about to get a beating. Somehow I have a feeling it's going to be a short duel, going like this:
Chaos/xenos dude: I Challange yo-
THWACK-BOOM
Brutus: Who's next?

Thanks guys, I'm loving the posability and sheer numberof options the new Van/Sternguard kits provide, I'm working through a number of different models which whilst not awesome in game just look epic for modelling/painting purposes, once I've done that enough I may well start on effective in-game characters from them but for now its too enjoyable to customise them.

He looks good, nice posing.

A Heretic may see the truth and seek redemption. He may be forgiven his past and will be absolved in death. A Traitor can never be forgiven. A Traitor will never find peace in this world or the next. There is nothing as wretched or as hated in all the world as a Traitor. - Cardinal Khrysdam, Instructum Absolutio

Really nice models.

Lots of character in Brutus. But for the love of the emperor, clean up his base and fix those rims up.
