Ok so reposting the original post after Cassandra had made a few suggestions to me (Thankyou!)

So basically I wanted to achieve with this post/topic/blog thingy was to motivate myself as i'm pants at it so figured getting together with other games and hobbists it would sper me on and not only that maybe make some buddies along the way.
I propose a tale of four gamers thingy. Now it looks like theres a few of us interested already so this is cool, not going to cap the total as I feel people should be aloud to join as and when (of course if everyone is happy at this).

so How i'm thinking this should work is, each month we set a goal ie I'll be working on my empire army to get it finished and ready for armies on parade so for my task one month I may want to paint a general and a unit of ten guys posting pictures up as i go and of the finished work.
no i understand some of you may want to start new armies or working on current ones so I shall leave buying models or using old ones to you guys but everything has to be newly painted for the purpose of the blog unless anyone is converting in which case converted for the blog.

so if we could open with a quick bio of what we want to achieve and who is taking part that would be ace's

So for myself My names DarkMoonlight or you can refer to me as Aar depending you like real life or no! I'll be wokring on my already exsisting Empire army and getting them complete in time for armies on parade next year. I'll be painting various units and at some stage creating a board to go with them.

Goal this month will be a small one as I'm waiting on bases to arrive so by the1st of november I will have five swordsmen painted along with my amber wizard on griffon assembled.

Any questions please ask or message me also one last thing do you want me to chuck this into the blog section of the site.

I may be interested in this, but my army is Chaos Daemons (40k). Also, my stuff will be focused mostly on conversions and sculpting/modelling rather than painting, at least at first. But it does sound interesting! Let me know either way.

One similar method of Getting Stuff Finished that's been used on other gaming sites is to make a competition out of it. A number of people sign up, take pictures of their unpainted models, and then they have a month to finish. At the end, a panel of judges declares winners in several categories (best paint job, best conversion, most improvement, etc). The winner gets FABULOUS PRIZES, and people who don't finish are mocked and adorned with new, shameful profile pictures.

It gets a lot of people involved, and the attention and faux peer pressure gets a lot more painted.

Wow, that sounds, not fun at all. I would like something to help me actually work on my miniatures, not feel like I have to take shortcuts to complete my hobby (I don't really play) to avoid public humiliation. :/ Also I know I, for one, don't have the money to put up for FABULOUS PRIZES in any case. Perhaps put it to one of the organisations that hang about here or Dakka itself? Not saying it's a bad idea, but if that's where Darkmoonlight wants to take things, then I'll have to respectfully bow out. I'd quite like to do a Tales of Four Gamers thing, especially if its varied and they're good folks, as long as no one expects me to have a finished army by the end . But a huge competition with massive pressure - no thank you.

It's probably more about the motivation than the fun, I'd agree. But from what I saw it was more about clearing out the giant backlogs of models taking up space everywhere than actually trying to win anything.

So i have decided im gonna start a new army and make a skaven thing!

talked to my buddy and he wants to do the high elves so that is a plus plus getting a warp lighting cannon and a battallion box that should keep me entertained for a while

Anyways, here's my brief bio:

Obviously I'm PurpleSquig, and I'm going to be working on a feral ork army.

The reason being I wanted to play 40k orks, but didn't really like a lot of their models. Then I saw the savage orcs from fantasy and knew where I wanted to go with it

In my minds eye its a very new tribe that hasn't really begun the excessive looting of imperial weapons, so almost all weapons are going to be kept primitive. To balance this out I'm thinking lots of wierd boyz, half-ork / half-squigs and catapults and stuff.

So essentially, a fantasy army


My goal this month is to get 10 boyz and 5 gretchin painted up!

BTW, I guess moving this to the blog section makes sense now we're starting...

I think moving it to the blog section makes a lot of sense, as we wouldn't have the back and forth in this thread, making it more friendly for the newbie. I'd also put our bio's all in the first post . I'll post one later!

Noticed this one thanks to Cass's blog, bit torn on which army I should be doing with this one, which may well just prove how bad some of us are at sticking to something instead of butterflying all over the place! I've got a Night Goblin army I was working on slowly alongside the chaos stuff, but the chaos stuff is going slowly enough by itself. I suppose I'll go with the chaos army, and how about a big one in finishing the building of my plague tower before 2014? It's already in progress but it was started in err... *checks photo dates* June 2010 so it needs to be finished as it's seen enough table time without completion now.

My name is Colm and I'm just about to start an Imperial Guard army - the Ghost Tigers. So far I have bought some clip together Cadians (to try out colour scheme ideas), a wood elf spellcaster (for my astropath with some converting..) and Loads Of Heads! (which is the main thrust of my conversion plans...)

My first Ghost Tiger tester mini is up in my gallery. I've painted a couple to try out the scheme and started converting the spellcaster.

I'd like in if you're still accepting people into this thing, I tend to be a serial project starter but not so much with the finishing. This kind of thing could really help me drive forward in completing an army and pursueing a single theme of modelling project going forward. I have already done up a couple of squads and 2 individual models for my planned army but that is literally the tip of the iceberg of what I have planned going forwards.

My name is Melcavuk (Or Ricki) and about a month of so ago I moved a loooong way up north and sold the majority of the 40K I owned at the time to aid in the moving fees, it left with me a majorly blank slate in scopes of 40K and for the first time in a long while I didnt have an army to play with. I have decided to do a heavily nurgle themed Chaos Daemon force that will feature units from all the gods but converted/painted up into a more nurgly (and therefore better ) army going forward.

To start with I have gotten the basics down 2 squad minimum and HQ for the army going forward. Currently painted 20 plague bearers and 3 different heralds. On my work bench are 10 more Horrors and 10 CHaos Hounds to do up as Rot Hounds of Nurgle (Khorne). By the end of the month I intend to get atleast 5, hopefully all 10 of the rothounds sorted.

I think that this, if all are accepted, is probably enough people. We don't want to overwhelm people!
