My name is Ben and I'm the owner of Oni Gaming. I'd like to post some information about the wargaming terrain Kickstarter I just launched.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1354837207/lost-dimension-portable-miniature-wargaming-terrai
The project can be summed up as the following. It's a simple modular terrain option for wargamers that's extremely portable, storable, and most importantly affordable!
Here's a few examples 28mm, including the river, on a small demo board (19x19)
Here are a few of the road examples (top 28mm, bottom 15mm)
It's a line of high quality 2D terrain, Excellent for folks just starting wargaming, as terrain is often one of the bigger hurdles. Or even folks whom simply prefer non-intrusive terrain. The product itself is printed to a rubber backed fabric that's about 1/8th of an inch thick. Thick enough to provide some weight while thin enough to be a non-issue for the sake of balancing miniatures.
The aim of this Kickstarter is to fund the necessary equipment to produce the initial product line. This includes high quality sublimation printing equipment, heat press, die cutter, and numerous custom dies. As always community feedback is very important to me so drop on by our community page or post a comment.
Happy gaming!

I am in for $75 for a large amount of scenery for 6x4. Seems perfect for historical. Hopefully they can do some generic buildings as well.

I've added a small village add-on option of various buildings, 10 total, and two accessories (such as wagons/crates/well or the like).
Additional building styles may become available depending on interest.

Good luck to you!
2D terrain isn't my cup of tea ( I prefer 3d), but this product looks very good and I can see it being successful. Some of the mockups actually had me fooled for a moment!

Thanks for the kind words =)
Aye 2D terrain isn't for everyone, but I certainly think it has it's niche and practical uses. I just want to provide a high quality option for folks =)

Not a fan of 2d terrain either, but I think this is rather clever. The top-down design really improves the look.

Hmmm, never given the idea of 2D terrain much thought, but for roads, rivers, ponds and lakes, it actually makes more sense than building something that will sit above the level of the table, and far more practical and less restrictive than building tiles with it cut down into.
I will go and have a poke around your Ks good sir! Automatically Appended Next Post: Aaand I'm back.
I'm surprised there's not roads on offer?
Is this perhaps designed with a more historical/fantastical bent?
If roads pop up (and a reward for roads, rivers and ponds only appears..hint) I'm quite possibly in.

Indeed azreal13, that's why I've set up the basic river as it's own pledge level. I'll also set up a pond/lake add-on option as well.
I haven't designed any roads yet but if it's something folks would like I could certainly work some out.
At the moment I went with a general look for the terrain, which likely appeals more to fantasy & historical. However I'd love to do some sci-fi / modern options, so I'm open to suggestions.

Good to hear.
If I was based in the US, I'd pull the trigger on getting the river set without a second thought, but the international shipping bumps it into the "need to think about it a bit" category. I appreciate there's not much you can do with that, it's just a reality of living on opposite sides of a huge amount of water!

What types of roads would folks be interested in for the initial option? Dirt roads or more modern paved?

Due to the nature of the material, double sided isn't an option (rubber backing). However I'll just mock up a set of each, hopefully have them ready by tomorrow.

Regular terrain is awesome, but for Warmachine the exact measurements and facing of each and every model absolutely matter, and you just can't beat flat terrain for that even if it looks pretty terrible compared to 3D. My FLGS has been using the bright colored foam-rubber mats you find in the arts&crafts section near the felt as Warmachine terrain for years, which we have dubbed Battle Doilies™. We have regular terrain of course, but for Warmachine tournaments and leagues you simply can't beat the playability of flat terrain. No models tipping over on the side of a hill, or standing precariously on a ruin. It's also dirt cheap, you can buy A4 sheets for about ¢60 and fill a 4'x4' for a few dollars.
These look like an excellent step up from Battle Doilies™. A little more expensive, but a lot more visually pleasing and still very playable. I'm assuming the materials are similar to computer mouse mats or CCG mats?

what scale is this been designed for? 28mm or could it be used for 15mm?
I am keen to see different types of roads. currently checking my finances as I could be keen to get one of the river packs.
but if a road pack was added in that could also be one of the things I add.

It's currently being designed for 25-30mm, but let me look into the possibility of 10-15mm roads.
Worst case I'd have no issue making 10-15mm terrain options as one of the first stretch goals, and I think roads would definitely be the appropriate jumping off point.
Also for those interested due to popular request I've added persistent effect templates and some wreck / blast markers to the pledge levels / add-ons.

I think if you did a 15mm river, and road set up [eg a pledge level] you might get a few more pledges as these would be great for games like Flames of War. Battlegroup Kursk/Overlord., etc...
I know I would pledge for a set like that in 15mm.

If I can manage it with the existing shapes I'll add them, let me look into it =)
Unfortunately scaling them down might mean additional custom die's which are one of the more expensive aspects of this project.

Thx,
I'll join up at the $1 level so I can get up dates and see how you go... could still be tempted to get the 28mm rivers if the 15mm river/road is not an option.

My best to you bro. Looks pretty cool. Something that might appeal to me more though are craters. If there's one thing I dislike about my battle wagons exploding, is having a pile of orks on some really good looking 3D crater and seeing models not standing up. I hate that. That and pretending that there are apparently no roads in cities, 40,000 years into the future. There are only gothic buildings and bunkers. Anyhooo. I like the idea, I just have preferences. I doubt I'm alone.
Good Luck bro!

I've been working on the 15mm roads and so far their looking good and I should be able to add them along with a 15m river set. Hopefully I'll have them ready sometime this evening.
Paved roads are in the works as well for both 25-30mm and 15mm.
As for vehicle wrecks/blast craters, I can look into those as well. What sort of dimensions of wrecks/craters would folks find most useful?

The roads are a separate purchase to the $75 level? It isn't an issue as the $75 is an awesome deal and ideal for what I am looking for - the road set would be nice however and I just want to know if I need to knock up my pledge amount.
I do agree with the person who suggested at a minimum you do 15mm roads and rivers (with bridge) suitable for FOW type thing. I am sure that would sell - well by sell, I mean I would buy it,

I've added the roads options, both 28mm narrow roads and the more standard 15mm roads. There is now a pledge level as well as an add-on option. Themes available for dirt, cobblestone, new paved, and deteriorated paved as well as examples for the first two themes. All in all it includes nearly 8 feet of road options.
The river set now has either a 28mm or 15mm bridge option. At the conclusion of this project anyone who's pledge level includes a river or if one has been added on will be surveyed for their scale choice.

Just added roads to my pledge.
Here's an idea - especially for historical gamers, what about some farm fields; like wheat etc. If made into smaller rectangles they can be utilized for 15mm and 28mm just by putting several together.

Yes, in fact due to much of the feedback I've recieved all of the terrain now will be available in both 28mm and 15mm. At the conclusion of the project you will simply be surveyed for your choice of scale. This should also resolve any compatibility concerns.
