I have seen a lot of posts about how CSM are good allies when Necrons are the main force. I was wondering can they be effective the other way round? I was interested in starting a CSM/Necron army, however, I have a large CSM army so would only be able to bring the Necrons as allies, not my primary force.

This is my current army

Abaddon
Huron
2 Chaos Sorcerers
Chaos Lord

70 Cultists
10 CSM
6 Chosen
5 Warp Talons

4 Helbrutes
1 Heldrake
1 Forgefiend (ectoplasma)

Thanks

Necrons can make for competative allies

Destoryer Lord Weave, MSS, Orb

2x 5 warriors in night scythes

6x Wraiths 2x whips

Anni Barge

The Necrons true strength as an army though is spamming models that are undercosted for what they do. Since your limited to single choices mainly when taken as allies you now have to supplement the nomal abilities of necrons with more expensive CSM Units.

Basically it would be Helldrakes to completment the scythes, Oblits to complement the Barge, Abbadon + cultists, or Fiends/Spawn + Sorc on bike/Lord on Bike to complement wraiths.

It works, it gives you pretty good mobile scoring 1 CC unit and a barge, but you wont have the same weight of fire if it was Necron primary with CSM allies.

You could get another scythe if you took a deathmark unit. That'd be 195pts total.
