So nobody at my FLGS uses these, and I haven't ever used one. I'm going to my first tourny soon and I'm wondering if I'll see many and what I should know tactically. I'll be running fliers, so I guess the gun they'll probably have with it is something that I should consider.

Does the unit that the gunner is with have to be targeted by my scythes to deal with the gun itself or are they separate targets?

Are they allowed to park one around an objective and then set up on it?

How do people on here use them and what gives them problems?

This is a nut that I don't want to trip up while cracking.

Well, I'm still learning too but the gun has a profile of its own so can be targeted and fired at just like anything else.

You can place the ADL wherever you like in your table half, however you like as long as each piece is in base contact with at least one other piece. I don't know if you can actually physically deploy units on top of an objective... I wouldn't of thought so.

I use one in most lists, the biggest problem I find is naturally things that ignore cover. Playing against Eldar alot, hurts...

The Gun emplacement is a separate 'unit' that can be targeted by either side. The gun is T7 with 2 wounds and a 3+ save. Most aegis lines will have a quadgun 4 twinlinked S7 shots, but there are a few rulehammer builds that make the icarus (S9 AP2) work, usually something along the lines of an eldar character that can fire an extra shot or somesuch. As necrons you can use anni barges to target the gun with S7 and possibly arc to guys crewing it. Keep in mind that it will probably take around 3 anni barges to take down the gun.

Other lists use the comms relay to reroll reserves (comms relay can't be shot).

The aegis line itself gives a 4+ cover save with the ability to go to ground for +2 to a units cover save.

The gun is, presumably, a big pain in the ass for flyer lists (huge range, interceptor and skyfire - could seriously wreck my buzz), so it needs to go. Guard would drop a turn one pie plate on it, I guess. Shame I don't have a bunch of deathmarks in this tourny list, they could be handy against this...

There must be a standard tactic against it?

Worst opponent for a ADL would be Dark Eldar. Since most of their weapons are poison the T7 of the gun is negated.

It is 2 wounds... lascannons wound on 2+ and it will only have a 4+ coversave. If you have many/expensive flyers, you should be able to take it out. If you can`t take out 2 T7 3+ wounds in one round, your list has much bigger issues than an Aegis gun (like MC`s)

This is why you spam flyers. The gun can only kill one flyer per turn, so you overwhelm it with so many flyers that even if it kills one you still have plenty left. It's even easier for Necrons since losing a flyer just means the passengers go back into reserve and walk on to claim one of your "home" objectives.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Riptide with ion accelerator, plus marker lights can kill one in a single volley.

You probably won't see many ADLs. They were very common about 12 months ago, but are less common now.
The problem is they encourage armies to turtle, which often is a fast way to lose the ga0me of 40k.

Most of your weapons wont care about the ADL as they already give saves to your target, so its not actually going to help your opponent any.

Dealing with it is easy. Shoot it with a few nightscythes, or assault it with a few wraiths. If your really going for the gold, assault the squad next to it and then shoot his units with the gun.
