Going to my first tournament this weekend. I have a 1500 pt list:

D Lord with 6 wraiths (4w coils)

10 immortals (n scythe)
15 warriors (n scythe)
5 warriors (n scythe)

d scythe
2 annihilation barges

What are my best options for deployment in everyone's opinions?

No list notes please, as its submitted a while ago (would do it different now) just wondering how people would play this list and looking for last minute advice. PARTICULARLY around deployment / opening tactics.

Well, flyers have to say in reserve.
I'd keep the ABs and the combo Lord and Wraiths together. In the last RTT, I battled a fast-moving CD list and I deployed the Wraiths (3x5) in front of the 3 ABs to guarantee that the Barges could fire.
The Night Scythes can be efficiently used as transport. Upon arrival on the battle field, the unit could disembark and shoot, and then embark in the next turn before the flyer takes off again.

I ran a similar list not so long ago. Deployment depends on who you are facing and what they have. If you are facing a drop pod/ melta heavy army... then I would deploy the wraiths around the ABarges, to keep the melta from double dice range. If they're using flamers however you'll want to use the ABarges to block. Often Times I will use the Wraith unit to buffer from Melta, as with a little luck you can use that 3+inv to save any stray melta shots. Once all pods are down, then seek and destroy.

The biggest thing is to not lose First Blood and to have enough on the board so you do not get completely swept. The AV 13, and 3+inv Wraiths are usually good at not getting blown off the table, but against things like Wave Serpent Spam. or Tau, that unit of Wraiths could go down quickly. Use terrain and be cagey.

A lot of lists lately are over-load lists... or lists which throw a ton of crap in your face as soon as they can... this plays right into what you want. It is best if you are using the wraith unit as a counter assault unit, as then they see less incoming fire. Don't get me wrong I have used them as a very assault oriented force, but only when running multiple units. One unit will get blasted if you aren't using them wisely.

A lot of it has to do with the Terrain, the Enemy Force, and the Mission... so it is hard to give blanket recommendations beyond this IMHO. Do you have an idea of the terrain or Meta in your area?

That interesting.

But apparently the immortals and the warriors don't need to be on board the fliers at the start. This is something I haven't tried, but am considering for the weekend. Maybe I could put the immortals down on the table near the wraiths to provide some covering fire for them, for instance, and to give my opponent some confliction about what to go at in turn one. Splitting his fire a bit...?

Target Saturation is a good idea, just be mindful of what the opponent has. If he can clear 10 marines in a turn... then those Immortals don't stand a chance. Use Line of Sight Blocking terrain to mitigate this damage.

I was thinking about saying you should deploy the 15 warrior blob, and then just pick them up when the Night Scythe comes in. Just embark and next turn drop them off on the other side of the table. It could definitely mess with some less savvy opponents.

Anyway, I'd keep the army together with the Wraiths either taking the lead or receiving the charge. The Lord can also soak up some incoming fire. But if you start rolling 1's he may crumble.
You need some mobility to claim objective. So I'd keep some troops in the flyers. It will increase your tactical flexibility.

I know the missions/deployment. They are, in order:

Crusade (Dawn of War)
BGNT (Vanguard)
Purge the Alien (H&A)
The Relic (Dawn of War)
The Scouring (Vanguard)

In that order.

You start off with a dangerously low model count on the board with all that in reserve.

I'd suggest using the small warrior squad as a home base objective holder in your deployment zone and to increase your heads on the table turn one. You can always run the scythe empty and/or pick them up later on when it comes into play if you wanted to.

That way you can rush your wraiths and d-lord forward post haste to do what they do best; drawing fire and ripping apart those who'd dare oppose the will of the overlords.
