Hey all,
I've been play testing a lot with my Tau and I want to find the optimal list that I can use in a tournament. Some things just unsettles me even though it seems to work out great. This was my previous list:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/563479.page
Now I've built another list that I'm happy with. Doesn't involve a skyray like many suggested because...it just doesn't quite work for me. I leaned towards markerlights in this army because I find it useful, especially against Dark Eldar...or Eldar, when all they do is get cover saves by flying around the board. One concern I have is...with markerlights and broadsides, I'm throwing in 2 units of shooting into one tank per turn, is that bit of a waste?
Anyways, here's my new army:
Farsight
O'Vesa
Commander w/ M3S, CnC, Penchip, NJ,VRT, OG
3 Crisis Suits w/ 3 TL plasma guns, 2 flamers, drone control, 6 marker drones
10 Kroots w/ sniper rounds
10 Kroots w/ Sniper rounds
3 Broadsides w/ missiles, VT, bonding, 3 shield drones
Riptide w/ HBC, VT, SMS, Tlock, Talisman
Thanks for your time and let me know what you think!

The challenge: in a 1500pt game I will play 900pt + D6x100 pts, if I roll a 6 I reroll and -100 to that second number (down to 1000pt minimum)

The only thing that does not make much since to me is the 6 marklights on the crisis team. How are you using them? Seem better used as a separate squad.

The Crisis Suit unit just sits in cover doing their JSJ. The marker lights can be useful for anything that I need to kill, although I see the inefficiency of that, wasting the plasmas, I can't think of any other way of incorporating markerlights.
Pathfinders are just asking for your opponent to take first blood, I find them quite hard to use.

Are you Tau or Enclave? I see you using the purtide chip from tau and talisman from the Enclave.

I use them as a gun squad. A little more expensive, but are tougher and more mobile with JSJ Markerlights than Pathfinders. You do drop in BS but you are not wasting fire power that you need.

And I really want him in the list so I can have 2 riptides benefitting from the buffmander M3S and CnC and Puretide Automatically Appended Next Post: barnowl wrote:Wings of Purity wrote:The Crisis Suit unit just sits in cover doing their JSJ. Edit: Sorry I miss understood, so you're saying take a drone squad on its own? I haven't considered that...but it will get chewed up like the pathfinders...especially for the same points I can only have 5 of them hitting on 5s...if I lose let's say 2 the remaining 3 will put out 1 marker per turn, that's just not helpful.

I find the JSJ makes them much harder to hit by letting them get behind LOS blocking terrain and stay clear of the nasties that stationary Pathfinders can't. Mark'o is a really nice way to do it to. I just hate the idea wasting either lots of plasma or lots of ML.

You could take two of those drones and throw them on your commander with a target lock, BS 5 markerlight hits, I know its only 2 drones but it seems worth it to me if your considering putting the six into a squad, just make a four done squad with two in the commander squad.
