While the good people over at Tournament Discussion hash out whether the new supplements will be allowed in tournament play, I've been trying to come up with cheaper alternatives to the current Eldar Revenant Titan model. Not because I want to use one, but rather because I worry it will be used against me. The Forgeworld model stands 12" tall, and the Wraithknight comes in at 9", so surely a little leg, body, and head extensions would be the easiest way?

What about other models? I've been looking at the Godzilla range, as well as some Gundam kits, and think there are some good alternatives there. Any other ideas?

I wouldn't let you take one, if it was not authentic.

I am usually pretty relaxed on model wargear and reasonable proxies, but I would put my foot down with a super heavy.

If you are not looking to get something to "counts as" and use as one, why are you asking? Your language comes off quite disingenuous.

Personally, I was going to work on a scrathbuilt counts as for the revenant for apoc.

I was going to make a tau version, and call it an experimental XV204 (tau lack good SH in apoc, and I like building things).
It was going to be a mix of some gundam kits, some ripttide parts and a few extra pieces scaled up using plasticard and other skills (I make a lot of custom stuff).

However, since now there will be a bandwagon of revenant players due to escalation - I am prolly gonna cancel that plan.

I know I should not care, but in anything I build I don't want anyone to think I am modeling to advantage or any crap like that.

Dave, if that was your plan from the start, I'd go for it anyway man. Just don't use it in escalation as that's so far what the rage is going to be over.

And hell, that just sounds awesome!

I don't care if it sounds dickish or not, but if you're not willing to pay for the official model then there's no chance in hell I would let you use the most broken model in the game to basically auto-win, and I imagine most other reasonable people who value their time won't, either. So don't even bother with a proxy, conversion, or "counts-as" in this case. It's called "pay to win" for a reason: you have to be willing to pay. If you're too cheap or otherwise unwilling to pay for a real titan model then don't even think about taking one in a game.

That said I still wouldn't agree to a game with someone even if they did have the official model because it's so broken as to make the act of playing through a game entirely pointless, more so than any other unit that has come before, so regardless, you're taking a huge risk and potentially throwing away a lot of money whether you take the cheap-ass route and put a wraitknight on a 3" tall rock or invest in the real deal. You can't force anyone to play a game with you unless you're playing in tournaments, and no TO worth his salt is going to allow that crap. Don't buy a revenant (or any titan, really) unless you intend to use it as a really cool display piece for your shelf, because that's really all its good for.

My advice: don't bother. Put it in your list and declare yourself the winner before the game even begins, maybe you'll get a laugh, then pull out a different list without one and play a real game.

I suppose there are always exceptions, though: if you're so good at scratch-building that you can make a titan that looks like the real deal without having to buy an official one then that's cool. But I still wouldn't expect to use them in games because they just aren't fair or fun. Good to feth around with in Apoc maybe, but again, not a lot of people playing Apoc because strength D makes the game entirely pointless.

Bitter crying children aside...

I have a friend that build a Revenant from the Wraithknight kit by extending limbs with plasticard. It doesn't look too bad, but you get what you pay for.

Disregard all the 40kiddos; play the game the way you want to play.

And most of those "kiddos" don't want to play Wallet Warrior with your fething titan. All I'm saying is don't spend the money on this project if you're not prepared to deal with the fact that the revenant is broken as feth and most people will refuse to play against it based on that. And pointing out that it's broken isn't being a "crying child", it simply means you're capable of rubbing more than a couple brain cells together and coming to the conclusion that a model that wipes out half an army per turn isn't something fun to play against, and eventually won't be very fun to play with, either, unless you're the kind of person who never gets tired of playing in god mode and doesn't miss the challenge.

In case anyone wants to cry about me de-railing the thread, in all seriousness I don't think you need to put a whole lot of effort into this anyway. I don't even see the point in elongating the limbs, you could literally just put it on a big pile of rocks or something and that would probably suffice, since the wraithknight is very similar in size and shape to a revenant titan anyway. I seriously don't think anyone is going to point fingers and scream "Modeling for advantage!", if anything being shorter would make it more difficult for you to sling D templates all over the table because it's harder to see over everything. Maybe it would make you slightly harder to hit but you're practically invincible anyway so who cares.

Skip the Rev and graduate to the Phantom for the real win. I also like that it is purely so you know what OTHERS will bring... *wink* Got yah.

eBay usually has them cheaper then FW although it is reasonably priced on FW too I think.

Don't look for a proxy I don't think you'll find a suitable one.
