Hi everyone,
I'm completely new to 40k, having only played Fantasy for several years.
However, I've wanted to try 40k for some time now, and have recently chosen to start playing Sisters.
Now, having looked at a few sample 500pt forces online, I've puzzled together the following:
Saint Celestine, 135pts
Ministorum Priest, 26pts
boltgun
10 Battle Sisters, 175pts
flamer
superior w. combi-flamer
rhino
6 Dominions, 148pts
4 meltaguns
immolator w. twin-linked multi-melta
26 pts left
I know it's incomplete, and it probably wouldn't even work in the hands of someone who isn't approximately an as big a tactical genius as your average brick and cursed by the Dice Gods, so that's why I turned to you for some minor (major?) adjustments. Anyone some advice to turn this into a list that's effective? I want to have a definite list before buying the models (for obvious financial reasons)...
Bonus question: is the Immolator simply an upgraded rhino kit, or are there actual differences between the two?

Hello
Sisters are great fun
Looks pretty solid however my thoughts:
You only have one troops choice (you need two)
Where is the Priest going as the Rhino is full? Id go bolt pistol rather than Boltgun,
If you can swap the combi-flamer for a combi melta it gives some options.
Try two small units of sisters (5 each) both in transports
Perhaps expand with some Serpahim to give Celestine some support.
Look to get one (or more ) Exorcists
The Immolator is a standard Rhino kit with extra Immolator specific stuff and lacking Marine specific sprue.

Thanks for the advice!
I've changed the points total to 600 (because my gaming club's 40k mini-tournament uses that point total), and came up with the following:
Saint Celestine, 135pts
Ministorum Priest, 25pts
5 Battle Sisters, 115pts
flamer
superior w. combi-flamer
rhino
5 Battle Sisters, 110pts
superior w. combi-melta
rhino
5 Dominions, 125pts
4 meltaguns
immolator w. twin-linked multi-melta
5 Seraphim, 85pts
seraphim w. two hand flamers
595pts
EDIT: 5 points left. Flamer in the second battle sister unit or melta bombs somewhere?
My strategy with this would be the following:
- Let Celestine and the Seraphims take a flank and jump-charge into a unit with a survivable overwatch
- Move the Dominions forwards and let them disembark somewhere sheltered to deal with enemy vehicles (in particular pesky vehicles in cover due to the Ingores Cover AoF)
- In the meantime, advance with the two sister squads in rhinos (with the priest in one of them), let them disembark about 20" away and fire away
However, my concerns with my force are the following:
- All the units are quite small, and none of them can take a lot of incoming fire
- There's three tanks in 600 points, isn't that a bit much?
- On the other hand, isn't the extra defence granted by the three tanks useless as the enemy will just shoot the seraphim instead?

Really for dominions to operate at max efficiency you need a laud hailer on their transport. So they can scout 6, disembark 6 and then ignore cover melta without having to worry about failing their aof on ld8.
Also I think you should drop the priest altogether. In such a small list he brings nothing and is wasting your 25pts. All his abilities are cc orientated and he's too slow to keep up with the seraphim, and the last place you want your battle sisters is cc with only 5 models in each squad. I would use the 25pts to put a heavy flamer in each sister squad. And use the 5pts left and 5 pts you already have left over to put the laud hailer on the doms transport. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also seen as your sisters are in rhinos. They can fire out the top hatch. So no need to disembark them 20' away. While they are inside they are safe. You want to keep them in as long as possible and make your way to enemy controlled objectives. Using your Flamers to clear them off it. Then you can disembark onto the objective on the last few turns and use the rhino as Los blocker to make sure they survive. Personally I take immos for all squads bar doms who I put in a rhino because it has side doors so you can gain a few inches after disembarking, immos only have rear doors. But I think in such a small list your better off with rhinos as they are cheaper.

Taking your advice into account, I've just made Army List 1.3:
Saint Celestine, 135pts
5 Battle Sisters, 115pts
flamer
heavy flamer
rhino
5 Battle Sisters, 115pts
flamer
heavy flamer
rhino
5 Dominions, 135pts
4 meltaguns
immolator w. twin-linked multi-melta & laud hailer
6 Seraphim, 99pts
seraphim w. two hand flamers
I've removed the combi-flamer and combi-melta from the units, as the two flamers in each unit seemed powerful enough (especially since the rhino has only 2 fire points anyway).
With the 15 points left I purchased a sixth sepaphim.

eBay man, it's the way forward, I picked my sisters up dirt cheap in little bits and bats. Took me about 2 months but now I have a 1500pt force and it was atleast half price overall

Wondering Why the Emperor Left
|
My suggestion to expand to 1000 points is to drop the two hand flamers and add a Marauder Destroyer with 8 Hellstrike Missiles.
|
Currently not in posession of any armies - I merely theorycraft and discuss background,
Waiting for HH Book 6 so I can start an Imperial Army army. |

Unless I'm mistaken that's actually slightly over 600 points as you're not counting the cost of the special weapons on the dominion squad. It doesn't say you can replace their bolters for free, just that you can take special weapons, so you still have to pay the cost for anything they take that isn't part of their default wargear.
I only say this because I'm also trying to figure out how to build a decent 500 point Adepta Sororitas army to start out with and I'm having a bit of trouble fitting everything that seems like a must-have outside 750 (and that's to say nothing of how much it would cost in dollars).

Oh well, then it's a 640 points list now
Since I also discovered that my gaming club forbids the use of named characters in their tournament, I'll have to count Celestine as a regular canoness (no way I'm buying another model for it), and that'll even give me 30 points to make sure she's more than an expensive bullet-catcher.
Do you specifically need a 500pts list? Because, like you said, it's really hard to make a proper 500pts list. If it's possible, I'd say go for 600, as this will allow you to get a fourth unit and thus a bit more diversity.

Well if your tourney doesn't allow named characters, then cannoness and drop the seraphim. This should take you to around 500

Thanks for the advice! Just bought the following for €175,- though, so I'm good for now:
- Sister w. Heavy Flamer
- Sister w. Multi-Melta
- 5 Sisters w. Flamers
- Sister w. Meltagun
- 15 Sisters
- 2 Sister Superiors
- Immolator
- 7 Seraphim (1 flamer, 3 superiors (of which one misses a jump pack), 3 regular)
Going to convert some stuff here and there, and buy two rhino's.
I only just found out that our 600-points tournament uses the following FOC:
Also, they forbid the use of named characters, so I built a pretty straightforward list:
10 Sisters
flamer
heavy flamer
rhino
175 pts
10 Sisters
flamer
flamer
rhino
170 pts
5 Dominions
4 meltaguns
immolator
twin-linked multi-melta
laud hailer
155 pts
6 Seraphim
seraphim w. 2 hand flamers
100 pts
My basic strategy is to use the two squads of sisters to take most of the fire, and also to claim any objective necessary. The dominion squad will take on the enemy vehicles in order of scaryness, and the seraphim will deep strike and shoot stuff.
Given the fact that I'm new and my opponent isn't, my dominions will probably end up fighting an infantry swarm, my sisters in close combat with vehicles and my seraphim deep striking into impassible terrain, but I'll probably have fun doing so
Any advice on how to improve either my list or my strategy?
