Hi, i'm starting warmachine with cryx after a lot of years of WH40k, i like the models and the game (less the prices -__-) but i'm a bit confused

First of all the list, i decided to star with the epic skarre (bad idea?), i was thinking to insert something with ranged attack like pistol wraith, they are useful with black spot and and seas of fate, necrosurgeon to heal skarre but i don't know which living unit is better with them, riders or mechanithralls?

That's all, do you have some suggestions to complete the list?

Thank you for the help

Welcome to the game! If you're starting fresh and want to save some money, look into buying used. I've built a pretty decent collection for about half retail price through buying used on larger-ticket items. Of course by now I've more than made up for that with new stuff, but I suppose that's not entirely a bad thing.

eSkarre's model got me into the game. I bought it just to paint and then I found out that there's a game you can play with her in. You can definitely start with her and continue using her for a long time. She's a fun caster to play with and isn't as abusive as our other casters so your opponent can have fun too.

The standard living model with either pSkarre or eSkarre are the Satyxis Raiders with Sea Witch UA and Sea Captain solo. Her typical heavy warjack is the Deathjack, and you'll probably want to run one arc node with her. She works very well with the pistol wraith thanks to Black Spot, but Seas of Fate does nothing for the pistol wraiths because they are not part of her battle group. Only she and the warjacks under her command are. It is a fantastic ability for saving focus, just not for the wraiths.

This may be better placed in the Discussion forum, but at some point we may work up a list.

The Deathjack can cast its warcaster's spells using focus it generates through Skulls of Hate, Cull Soul, and whatever you directly allocate him from the warcaster during that phase. It's a little complicated, but makes sense after the first few times of using it.

my bad, sorry ^^

This is the current list

epic Skarre (-6)
Deathjack 12
pistol wraith 3
pistol wraith 3
necrosurgeon 2
skarlok thrall 2 (one free spell, right?)

16/25 pt

first option

- skarlok thrall
+ full satyxis raiders + leader

24 points

second option (cheaper version)

+ full mechanithralls
+ 2 brute thrall
+ warwitch siren (?)

25 points

the second version is not bad, combo strike of the zombies is great with the black lash of skarre, maybe a reaper to take them closer?

eSkarre does not need a Skarlock Thrall. Her prime version certainly does, but not the epic version. There's just nothing in her list for the Skarlock to be casting. If it's close enough to use Black Spot or Blood Rain, it's probably dead already or your opponent doesn't know what it does which will only happen once.

The raiders are a fantastic choice and combined with Feedback can mean that anyone running a colossal warjack probably just put out a death sentence on their caster. Feedback and Backlash stack, so each hit on a warjack is 2 points of damage to the caster. They're also just great utility in general and hit decently hard with the Sea Witch UA's special ability Power Swell. Always, always take the Sea Witch UA for Power Swell, defense buff against ranged, and Pathfinder. All Raiders work very well with Black Spot thanks to having two attacks and Reach on one of them, so a potential four attacks per model. Also don't forget about their Combined Melee Attack, which can mean getting rid of pesky solos and other high defense things much easier. You should also always take the solo Satyxis Raider Captain. She makes it so all friendly Satyxis (including Skarre!) cannot be knocked down, and she gives your Raiders a once-per-game boost in speed. With the speed boost and pathfinder, they can threaten a very large amount of the board. Further, she hits hard and accurately and comes with a ranged attack.

Mechanithralls work very well in a pSkarre list, but much less so with eSkarre. They're relatively slow compared to Raiders and without Reach they don't get nearly as much use from Black Spot that the Raiders do. I bring them in every pSkarre list, but I leave them at home with eSkarre. The warwitch siren won't have anything to do in this list. She's great for helping out a node, but Deathjack produces his own focus and he'll want more than a single focus even if he didn't.

Skarre likes Seethers as they don't drain her focus as badly as most jacks and her spell list aids small ampunts of heavies well

Putting death ward on the deathjack seems a very good course of action, as this makes him incredibly hard to hurt

The Seether is hard to suggest outside of her theme force. It has Slayer stats and costs as much as Wrong Eye & Snapjaw without offering nearly as much utility. I think the three point boost in cost is appropriate for what the Seether does over a Slayer (free focus, free charges, free throwing), but Skarre does not have a way to protect it from shooting and even if it gets there it's only PS16 so you can't really use it for cracking high armor or chewing through wounds. If your opponents have any kind of reasonable shooting, tarpit, or get to hit it first, that's a 9 point wreck marker.

If your Seether does reach a target with all systems intact then it can be useful in clearing charge lanes or taking down certain things and I've had a few assassinations made possible with that free throw into a warcaster to knock it down. That will happen once, and then your opponent will apply a stiff breeze to kill it next game.

That all being said, the Seether is awesome to make from the Withershadow Combine's ability Dark Industries. A free Seether is amazing. A 9 point Seether is significantly less amazing.

finally online, thanks Kirbinator, it's very clear now. The actual 25 points lit is

epic Skarre (-6)
Deathjack 12
pistol wraith 3
pistol wraith 3
necrosurgeon 2
Satyxis riders (10 models) 8
Sea witch 2

24/25

About the strategy? Block a WJ with pistol wraith, black spot on it with skarre and alpha strike with riders and hope they kill the warcaster, right?
