Kill markings. Does anyone still paint or mark them?
How do you do yours and do you customize them for specific opponents?

My old chaos marines, I would scatter kill markings all over the army from a normal trooper, to tanks, to my reaver. These would range from marine shoulderpads, to the decal of the different armies that were cirled in red with the red slash across them. Heck, we even had a guywho loved dwarves and cheered the squats. i took a fantasy dwarf decal and did the red circle slash through it.

No to any great extent, but on occasion I'll put 'easter eggs' in my army. For example, when doing a custom Ork Warboss for my brother, I added some trophies and looted gear painted in my armies' colours.

More fluffy ones than in-game ones. My Heresy Warsmith has Raven Guard and Iron Hand trophies, sadly neither are present in my local meta.

I was thinking of chaining some imperial guard to the masts on my Dark Eldar vehicles but I think it might look a bit tacky.

One of My really good buddies has played space wolves for forever. So when I started my pre heresy thousand sons I started putting dead space wolves and broken space wolf banners on my bases. I think this counts ;p

When I put my terminators together, I put ork glyphs and trophies on their bases. The terminator with chain fist has an ork impaled on it and the ork is painted in the colors of my buddies ork army.

I see others do it. I enjoyed the reactions of my opponents when they realized I made the trophies specifically to represnt their armies.

Obviously it's good fun to customize your army and add depth to it by showing where they've been, so to speak. Memorable events on the table deserve some special things added - and obviously, when I build terrain, I try to take into account the local players I meet the most

One of my guardsmen has " trophies " from a genestealer and hormagaunt.

It was made using the finger/claw tips from a genestealer's hand and the scything talon of a hormagaunt, I used a little sewing thread for the straps to hold them on.

OH, I totally do.

On the bases of many of my armies are the remains of various other armies I fight often.

For example space wolves, guard and eldar were very popular for a while in my area....so on he scenic basing that I do, you will find those remains.

I even put a crashed heldrake (the remains) on the base for one of my flyers, as two of my buddes play CSM and have the beasties.

I was turned against keeping score of kills by this one incredible deutsch-bag from way back when. His personality made me sick, and he made this big show of talking trash even though his models had never even hit the table. He played Necrons when their first 3rd edition dex came out, back when they broke every single rule in the game and were more of an auto-win than anything before or since, so he didn't have to be any good to talk trash. He even went so far as to talk trash to my GF at the time, whom I was teaching to play the game. She then asked me to destroy him.

His idea of "kill marks" was that he would only play you if you agreed to wager the head of your commander model. Nobody ever played the jerk, and he lorded it over everyone. Finally, he agrees to play me, and I proceed to teach a seminar on how to dismantle a 3rd edition Necron army using my Tau. I kill the last necron needed to phase him out, and before he can say or do anything I grab his necron lord and hack its head off with a pair of clippers. Damn thing shot off like a tiny pewter cannonball and was never seen again.

The whole thing, while rewarding in the end, left me utterly disgusted by the idea of tallying your kills against other players. Although, my friends and I did keep track of what we called "atrocity points," for when a single model committed a war crime and slaughtered an entire army, which was still quite possible in 3rd edition.

I have a bunch of Night Lords models with the fluffy backstory that they like to take trophies from loyalists they've murdered. The Chapters played by locals are a little more well represented.

Back in the day at one of my local stores and with my group. Every time we beat some one we would ask for a bit from the army we defeated. We would then paint and glue those bits on to our HQ's or create a model that would be with our HQ that carried these trophy's lol

Most of the kill marks on my tanks are universal. i.e you can imagine that the stripe on the gun barrel could be anything from an Ork Battle Wagon to Tau Hammerhead and everything in between.

The older tanks I have like one of my Shadowswords says "Death to Chaos" and stuff but that was when most of opponents at the time were chaos marines of some type. Otherwise I don't have any race specific kill marks any more.

Was thinking of having a riptide head hang from a tank barrel at one point. but first I gotta face and kill one. I have the head but Id rather accomplish the kill first. That or Eldar heads somewhere.

My aircraft get kill marks to represent their actual air to air kills. Just nice simple tally lines though, nothing personal. I'm debating giving my tanks kill marks for meaningful (superheavy/character) tank kills, but tracking every random tank I kill would get too cluttered.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Guy I used to play with would ask for any painted bit from the army he beat and would then super glue it randomly to his wave serpent. Yeah after a while it looted pretty cluttered with random bits of shapes and colours
