After I get my Chaos up to a level I deem appropriate, I've decided for my next 40k hobby project to be my favourite Loyalist chapter: Black Templars! I love them because they are Imperial Fists successors and they fight up close and personal no matter who it is their fighting, with a nice nasty zeal.

I decided to put my own spin on the las/plas crusader squads and shove in neophytes as both ablative wounds, and, if I assault, then let loose with the Neophyte shotguns and put a nasty dent into the opposing squad. The Emperor's Champion sits with the Vanguard as a fairly cheap deathstar, hoping to strike down in the enemy's deployment and attack from behind.

How is my list? Terrible? Hopeless? Decent?

I think that at the 1000pts scale you're on the right track. Maximizing in the crusader squads is good since it's basically the only thing they got going for them.

Not sure if you can fit it but 2 things I'd try to do:

1) replace the EC and vanguard vets with a captain (arti armor, burning blade) and a command squad ( I'd try for a company champ, apocathery, and sprinkle some PWs and SSs). You'll lose fearless but gain an attack and the choice NOT to challenge, the FNP will help too.

2) I'd lose the neophytes and get some rhinos for better mobility and some protection, also, unless you don't have flyers where you play I'd try to throw in a couple of Flakks instead of LCs

At larger point scale I'd invest in a LRC, bigger crusader squads led by a decked out CM (no TDA so that you can retain the benefits of the crusader USR)
