Hi guys, without going into too lengthy of a discussion as to why, lets say its in the middle of the Horus Heresy.... You've got 4 Loyalist Legions, and 4 Traitor Legions. What I want to do is divide some units across these legions. I have equal numbers of each, and each one of the opposing Legions will share the same kind of unit.

So the legions I have are:

Ultramarines
Space Wolves
Dark Angels
Blood Angels

Sons of Horus
Death Guard
Emperors Children
World Eaters

The units I want to assign are support weapons (Thudd Guns and Tarantulas), Whirlwinds, Dreadnoughts, and Vindicators.

I figured the Vindicators would be good for the Ultramarines and Sons of Horus (I always see Ultramarine Vindicators everywhere, and the Sons besieged the Emperor's palace so why not?)

I figured with the ferocity of the Space Wolves and World Eaters, dreadnoughts should go to them.

I like the Death Guard with the support weapons, and with only the Whirlwinds left, gave them to the Emperors Children.

But then on diving up the same between the Dark Angels and Blood Angels... who do you think would be more prone to use Support Weapons / Whirlwinds. I dont have the latest codexes to really know who is using what, and back in the day everyone seemed to have everything, but just by what you feel, should the Dark Angels get the support weapons and the Blood Angels the Whirlwinds? Or the other way around?

If you havent figured it out by now, I am trying to make each of the legions sort of reflect each other, so I am trying to figure out what to do with these weapons.

You have 8 FW armies?

I would say that the Blood Angels should get the Whirlwinds, they seem to have more mobile rhino variants in their Codex when compared to the Dark Angels. Dark Angel mobility comes from the Ravenwing, so having support weapons in their basic army seems to fit better.

Ah many thanks Trickstick! Exactly the kind of reasoning I needed, and I am not an expert on the fluff.

BTW, this is for AT/SM1. I got a brand new Space Marine v1 game, and while deciding on how to paint the minis, I decided to pick out 4 legions from the sides of the box and paint them up that way, even if they arent canon anymore. So with 16 Land Raiders, 32 Rhinos, and 64 stands of infantry, I decided to divide by 8 and make 4 Loyalists vs 4 Traitors. I've gotten a lot of other bitz, and want to distribute them evenly between the two, but make each unique amongst the sides!

So rather than painting one half all Ultramarines, and the other Sons of Horus, I thought it would add a lot more character to do it this way.
