I have a question: For my Tau commander should I look at getting the Finecast one on the GW site or maybe the Forgeworld XV89 suit? I've heard the Finecast one isn't a good model and it seems very limited in weaponry (i.e. no variety at all) but I like how he looks (barring the silly pose), while the XV89 doesn't seem to look quite as cool, but still distinct enough to be stand out from regular Crisis suits, and doesn't seem to be as bad a model. They are both about the same amount (not counting shipping). I'm no good with converting things so I'd rather not just use a regular battlesuit and try to convert him.

I'm also tempted to look at some of the mecha parts from Paulson Games, specifically the heads as I've heard the weapons are a little bit too large for Crisis suits.

I would use a normal crisis suit with some extra bitz put on in, (maybe even a green stuff cape. Because reasons.), but between the FW model and the GW one, I would go FW, the Gw model tends to droop and it's weapon selection in terrible.

I agree that the normal crisis suit kit has great potential for a commander model if you take the time to fiddle with it. If you want, look at the link in my sig and you should be able to get a few ideas from some of my conversions.

I had to cut and convert mine into a pose similar to Commander Farsight, but with fusion blades to really enjoy it. A good kit, stock pose is just a little wobbly

The single biggest thing you can do to spruce up a crisis suit is to add a waist. Cut the torso in half just below the chest and stick a spacer in there. A 12mm plastic washer from the hardware store is perfect, but if you just want to use Crisis bits, you can tick the shield generator in there. That gives you a much better proportion and the ability to actually pose the suit.
