Hey Guys!

Alright so I'm looking for some help. I've recently got into 40k and I bought a bunch of Necron stuff for cheap.

What I have at the moment is the following:

Monolith
5 Immortals
Necron Overlord
Annihilation Barge
Lynch Guards
5 Scarabs

Now I considering picking up the battleforce. It includes:

20 Necron Warriors
Ghost Ark/Doomsday Ark
5 Immortals
5 Scarabs

I cant really afford anything else, the battleforce seems to give me the basics I need.

So I had a go with making a list. So here it is.

HQ

Necron Overlord, Resurrection Orb and Warscythe. I currently have Mindshackle Scarabs but I was told to choose something else.

I'm not to sure about other gear. Any help would be appreciated.

Troops

10x Necron Immortals

9x Necron Warriors in a Ghost Ark. Necron Overlord is joining the party in the Ghost Ark.

Fast Attack

10x Scarabs. I dont know if this is overkill. I would rather go with another squad of Warriors, but I need something to help out with tanks.

Heavy Support

Annihilation Barge: With Gauss Cannon

Necron Monolith

All this is under 1000, around 987.

I've already talked about it with friends and apparently I'm lacking AP2 weapons, or ways of effectively taking out tanks/mech. Honestly I don't know much about the game. I'm mostly getting all my list advice from people who have only played for two months. Any help is much appreciated!

Hope to hear back soon!

Out of my Mind

Welcome to the Necrons.

Good Start and a Battleforce would be a great addition on a budget. Your friends are right about the lack of AP2, but that's just the Necron army. The few AP2 shooting we have rarely justifies their cost if you're bringing them for AP2. Warscythes are some of the best AP2 melee in game.

As for anti-tank, we love it. Every Gauss weapon smiles at Armor, and you've got plenty, and more if you run the Immortals as Gauss. With the Anni Barge and Monolith, you've got plenty of AT.

What are the Lychguard Armed with? If they have Warscythes, they make great substitutes for Lords. This can get you to 1500 pt games easy with the Battleforce.

Your 1k list is great. You've got a good balance of units that will help you get a feeling for Necrons. Only 2.5 changes I'd recommend. 1st is to put the Overlord with the Squad on the Ground. It's not going to do anything with that Orb while in the Ark until the Ark gets blown up. 2nd is that you're right on the Scarabs, it's kind of overkill for 1k games, break it up into 2x 5 base units until you hit the 1500 pt games.

The 0.5 suggestion would be to find a balance between the Scarabs, and adding more Warriors to the unit on then ground. This will require more Warriors which you won't have yet, and may decide you don't want them.

Good Luck

Well, I started the new Necrons with the battle force. Its a great way to begin with this army. However, after playing some games you will quickly realize that Lynchguard or the Monolith are not the best units in the game. Warriors and Immortals are what you need and Night Scythes as transports. Moreover, you cannot have enough Annihilation Barges. Even three are a bargain.

To inflate your points you may want to use your overlord as a special character. I like to use Nemesor Zahndrek, but he is not a head on assault unit, he is more of a support unit. I put him with my immortals.

For Immortals, use Tesla Carbines rather than Guass Blasters. Gauss Blasters offer rapid fire and AP 4, While Tesla gives you 2 extra hits for each 6 you roll to hit. The sheer amount of hits will bring anything down. I use tesla because I do not use my immortals aggressively to get into rapid fire range (12 inches) because a charged immortal squad is not a happy immortal squad. Also, if for some reason your immortal squad with tesla gets charged, you will get on average 3 or 6 str. 5 hits in overwatch. I've never looked back at gauss after putting tesla on.
Concerning the Annihilation Barge, it is awesome. I use three. I use the Tesla Cannon rather than guass cannon. However, you may be using the strategy where you snap fire the twin linked gun and fire the smaller gun at full ballistic skill, but this strategy never works for me.
I love my ghost Ark.
And scarabs are amazing. Your opponent will either waste all of their artillery on the unit on turn one, taking the fire of your big guys, or suffer. I have had one single scarab base charge and destroy a Leman Russ in one assault phase.

If you are sure you want to get your overlord in assault, keep the mindshackle scarabs. You also may want to give him a phase shifter and or Warscythe, but dragging 9 warriors, one of your scoring units, into assault with him seems not beneficial.

Good Luck.
