So, Im crazy and got 2 hwk 290s because i think the models super cool. and noticed they are the cheapest ship for and ion turret, (I love ion turrets i think there pure trolls)

so anyways what im thinking is 2 Hwk 290s just the cheapy PS 2 one with an ion turret and having 2 bwings with ion cannons.

i think i have 14 points left over so i was thinking either taking the ps 4? Bwing ship or some other upgrades but cant really see which ones would be beneficial for this strategy

i know for funsies i can do whatever my heart desires but im thinking competitively are ions good or just a one trick pony.

with the bwings 2 K turn they can get behind a ship fairly easily and just keep that ship going down a slow and painful path.

and with so many i can even troll big ships.

Granted i think the most problems ill have is from tie swarm, Lack of Defence and numbers weigh heavily against this list i think.

Lemme know what you think Dakka Nuts

I like the idea, the hwk is one of my favourites too, so I'd be interested to see where this goes

Handily enough the b wing is my absolute favourite ship in Star Wars so would be an easy choice

I don't understand posters who dislike the HWK. It's a great support ship. Let us know how it goes! It sounds purely evil, and I like it!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Let us know how it works if you run it! I was wondering how an ion troll list might measure up.

Sounds like a variation of the "Terror Wheel," which is 4 Grey Squadron Pilots (Y Wing) with Ion Cannon Turrets. I've run this, and yes, the Tie Swarm is the bane of this list. But when I ran into a Han Shoots First, getting to "walk" Han off of the board rather than getting a KO, priceless...

It's a list that either dominates, or dies helplessly. Against low-agility lists like HLC B-wings you do exactly what you're talking about and lock them down turn after turn while they can't even attempt to shoot. If they don't cripple you in the initial pass before you get behind them the game is pretty much over. The problem with the list is that anything that can't be locked down easily is going to crush you because you don't have the firepower to win if you're actually taking hits. Turret lists will hurt you, swarm lists that bring more ships than you can ionize will wipe you out effortlessly, and elite ships like PTL interceptors will laugh at ion cannons. So it's really a metagame choice, and one that you need to be very careful about. I'd consider it against a player who loves low-agility ships, but I wouldn't take it to a tournament where you're almost guaranteed to encounter a bad matchup and lose the game before any dice are rolled.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Well the list did super bad, got some unlucky rolls but ultimately just couldnt get enough ions to really get them where i needed them. My buddy took Soontir and 2 sabre sqaudron pilots with veterans, soontir had PTL, and a tie bomber with proton torp, and proton bomb. didnt kill one ship = ( almost killed fel in the end with 4 shot bwing but just conceded. owell it was fun.

Yeah, that many ions cannons is not a good idea. You just don't have enough damage output. Against imperials you'll be lucky to hit twice, and against rebels 3-4 damage a turn isn't all that good even if you do ionize most of his ships. That one ship left that isn't ionized can easily do 3-4 damage right back at you.

Also, the hawk doesn't get nearly as much attention for the ion turret as the Y. For the 2 extra points the Y is notably more survivable, even with only 1 agility, and has a better dial. Unless you really need those 2 points somewhere else, the Y is the better turret vehicle.

The headhunter with ion missiles looks like it will be a cheap, 'turn you really need it' ion option (that will also ion big ships in one shot).

A 12pt ship with a missile bay is so exactly what the rebels need.

17 pts for a Z-95 with assault missiles!?!? I'll two.

That ship can't get released fast enough.
