A question to the community to help bring a discussion to an end regarding escalation lords of war.

At the current time being at our local club we are running a campaign, the 3rd mission for this campaign is a kill points scenario, although to make things more interesting HQ units can only kill other HQ units. Other units can hurt HQ units, bringing them down to 1 wound, but they can never kill them outright.. Unless they are also an HQ unit ofcourse.

Several members of the campaign are arguing that escalation lords of war units are HQ units. I for myself assumed they are not, as I can't see anything within the expansion rules to state they are and as they are not specifically chosen as HQ, but instead as a separate lords of war addition to your FoC then they can not count as an HQ choice.

Can anybody confirm that I am correct? Or advise me if they can be used as HQ.

They are explicitly NOT HQ choices.

They take up an entirely separate space within the force org chart. There's even a handy diagram illustrating where they stand in relation to everything else.

Escalation gives you permission to bring ONE Lord of War, which is it's own Force Organization type.

Unless someone is going full Horus Heresy and is bringing a Primarch, Lord of War entries are just that: Lord of War. Not HQ.

The best way to resolve arguments like these in your group is to ask the person to show you where it says that.

Tell them to show you where a Lord of War is also an HQ unit. Until then proceed as normal.

Lord of War =/= Warlord

That may be where they are getting confused.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts
