What can Daemons bring to the competitive scene that isn't Flying Circus or Screamerstar? I want to play Daemons because I love the models and want to be Semi-very competitive with them without bringing the same lists as everyone else and my opponents hating me. I also really like the idea of allying with CSM. What kind of stuff do these two codex bring that is above average!?

Violent Space Marine Dedicated to Khorne

Daemons can actually bring some balanced lists to the game that work that aren't the done-to-death screamerstar or flying circus. Another competitive list that is often run is the beast rush, although this often goes alongside the screamerstar.
I often run lots of infantry backed up with heralds using loci and psychic powers and just try and overwhelm my opponent. Often with a greater daemon or an allied daemon prince as a strong warlord. If you don't want to run daemon princes for your heavies, nurgle soul grinders are fantastic fire support and very hard to kill when in cover.
For CSM allies, the black mace DP or Be'lakor are good HQ's to take. You could then take minimum troops (5 bare-bones marines or 10 cultists - I normally go marines for a little more survivability and their small footprint), and just make use of the heldrake or bikers for fast attack, and either havocs, mauler/forgefiends or obliterators for heavy support.
Hope I have provided some help.

You can make a lot of different units work for Daemons in a competitive environment. You will have to take Fateweaver and the Grimiore. Aside from that, there are a number of ways to go about using them. Hounds, Plague Drones, Screamers, Fiends (depending on how they are ruled), Seekers, and Grinders all have a place. Furthermore, blocks of troops like Daemonettes and Horrors can do reasonably well.

The thing about the Daemons codex is that aside from chariots or named characters (besides Fateweaver of course) everything else in the codex is pretty solid.
Like said before you can definitely build a horde style army with daemons. Daemons have the fastest assaulters in the game, which make them by far the best assault army.

Are Flamers relevant? I love these models but I haven't seen anyone mention them yet

Daemonettes are pretty easy to mow down or pie plate into the ground but if they make it to assault then they can decimate pretty much anything.
I think the trick is to have them as a secondary threat where your opponent is too busy dealing with the main assault to be able to focus fire on them.

They're not that easy to kill in my opinion. They run around with a 5++ that can't be ignored. Most units of their toughness don't get to take saves, but daemonettes get to ignore 1/3 of wounds, plus they will never run.
I agree with you that they should be a secondary threat. Hounds are WAY faster but are less of a threat to a lot of things. However most people will freak out and shoot everything at the hounds first.

They're very quick and pretty hearty when ran en masse. Also, people need to stop saying decimate... Decimate means to reduce by one tenth... If you decimate a 20 man daemonette blob, you've killed two models...

Decimate may etymologically look like it means to reduce by one tenth, but it has been used historically and currently acceptably to reduce by a large amount. Just like Sinister, etymologically means "left-handed."
Also, I think the flamers can work really well against certain armies, specifically Nids. Automatically Appended Next Post: Icculus wrote:Dalymiddleboro wrote:wtnind wrote:

Historically, it means to reduce by one tenth... They would literally punish roman soldiers by clumping them into units of 10 and randomly executing one of them. Currently, it's an acceptable word to describe the reduction by one tenth, people just use it incorrectly, and as a result say that's acceptable.

There are a lot of words like that. But current definition in the English language is to reduce by a large number.
Awful use to mean amazing. full of awe.

dictionary.com
dec·i·mate [des-uh-meyt]
verb (used with object), dec·i·mat·ed, dec·i·mat·ing.
1.to destroy a great number or proportion of: The population was decimated by a plague.
2. to select by lot and kill every tenth person of.
3.Obsolete . to take a tenth of or from.
Well the number 1 definition is to kill a great number so seems legit use of the word.
