Only problem I have is using base only, that is supper lame and unless I was a friend of yours I'd decline the game.

That's up to your friend.
As for me.. i would say sure one time to let you try them and see if their worth to buy.

But that's only once! don't expect people wanting to play something you can't draw LOS as easy to etc cuz... it's just a plain base xD

Waagh like a bawz

If you were trying them out to see if you want to add them to your army, I’d give you one free pass.

If you had them, but they were half painted, in parts, not ready in time for the game, I’d let that slide.

Part of my enjoyment of the hobby is watching two well painted armies duke it out over the battlefield. Proxing empty bases for units takes away from that. Especially when you are subbing out 1/4 to 1/2 of your army. This would still irritate me if you were proxying crummy units.

The fact that you are adding one of the cheesiest units just makes it worse.

Yeah, if it's with a good friend and you're testing them out to see if you want to buy them, go for it.

If you don't have the actual models, you're potentially going to get into a lot of LOS / model size issues, especially if you're playing a pickup game or with somebody you don't know. So, maybe do it with a regular opponent...

A good rule of thumb when using proxies is to give your opponent all the questionable calls. This makes you using them a little easier to take, as it removes the “MFA” problem.

I think it would be better to just borrow someone elses flyers (vendetta/strormtalon/something) and just Proxy than a blank base. Ive played against blank bases, and it is just never fun.

I play my army WIP and have lots of unpainted stuff. I don't use proxies, but I don't mind if my opponent does, as long as they can remind me what they actually have.

I think the only demoralizing thing about a (triple?) Heldrake base proxy is that it becomes a flying torrent base of invisible death.

Wait.. that sounds kinda cool actually...

Possible solution: Buy toy pteranodon, cover in tin foil. Not sure how to fix the base issue though.

Honestly, I'd happier if you made a simple paper air plane out of black card with an angry face drawn on the front in gold marker appropriately mounted than empty bases. Obviously, I mean this would be intended as a preferable temporary alternative to empty bases rather than a long term solution.

To me the visual aspect of the game is important in many ways, and as much as a heldrakes with cloaking devices makes sense I'd rather have some level of visual representation of the forces involved in the battle.

I proxy all the time. Who wants to spend a thousand more dollars on every unit composition in your codex. But if you can borrow a flyer or something then do that otherwise i hope the person is not a rule stickler and does not want you to have the most current GW model or i am not playing syndrome which is annoying.

I see proxies all the time from people trying out units before they buy them. As long as I'm seeing effort after a while to get the models once you've spent the time playtesting them I don't care in casual games.

I played with crescent-shaped foamboard on flying stands for months before the Night Scythe model came out.

That said, I really do think that you should put some effort into anything you plan to use as a proxy long-term, to the point where it's more of a scratch-build.
