So I found some time to continue on the free commission biel tan project for a friend of mine. Last thing I did was a wraithknight and now I am on the two crimson hunters.

They will both be on the biel tan scheme and will carry a different kind of stencil work each.

A little info on the painting process along with some pics.

After assembling and priming black I went on with the airbrush and hit with white all the raised areas where highlights will be. Below you can see pics with half the model done and then all of it complete.









Then I used really thin VGC Dark Green (72028) and went over the mini until I got a good coverage. Areas hit with white appear brighter and vice versa.





Both of the above steps allow for an amount of sloppiness since they are just meant to help with shadows and highlights later on.

Now I have to finish the white in the belly (which is such a pain to get nice and smooth) and then do the stencil work .

Heya this looks really sweet! Please keep the picture diary coming, I have started to airbrush and am looking to see more work with blending over large panel areas. I like how the initial green turned out after your two-tone shading.

Airsick stencils.. Not the best regarding customer's care but they make pretty nifty stencils .

also pretty damn expensive if im not mistaken :/ ive been really unimpressed with how expensive stencils are in general, especially considering its basically a piece of laser cut acetate. Ive been making a few of my own stencils and its been really quite fun. ive also found that you can find some cheap stencils if you move away from minature specific companies. Ive used : kids face paint stencils (got like 100 for £5 or something rediculous - although obviously fairies and tigers aren't always useful )

This is supposed to be some kind of rock effect. The colors chosen where hull red, italian red, orange and golden yellow but the outcome on green was, as expected brown. I am trying to brake up the total green of the model and I don't know yet if I like it or I hate it.
I went over it with tamiya clear red used through the airbrush in order to bring the redness back.

hmm, what made you pick rock? I like the idea of breaking up the green uniformity. But not sure the rock effect works in terms of overall look. They look good on there own in terms of the colours changing. any other ideas? Like making a stencil or the biel Tan sigil or something?

I am gonna put the biel tan decal between the cockpit and the back of the plane and surround it with the rock thingy effect. Do you think I should turn them more red?

I like it, though rocks wasn't my first thought, lol. First thought was scales.

I was trying to achieve the effect of rocks de attaching from the plane due to speed . I think it didn't work as intended. I should have made the pattern more scattered near the back of the wing. I will work a little on it tonight and post some pics.

Ah ok, I think if that was your goal maybe scatter them more thinly toward the rear of the wing and maybe also have some streaks to show the rocks sliding off do to the speed?

Yeah the concept isn't simple but I really like doing weird things with eldar.

Wait till you see the concept on the next crimson hunter .

well if you like funky things I say go for it! definitely not wanting to stiffle your creativity. I agree with a few of the other posts. Visual streaks and a thinning towards the back. So whats the concept for the next crimson hunter? I plan on using the high elf fmaing bird as the crimson hunter for my harle force.

Well lets say I thought of an alternative to the biel tan thorn pattern .

The crimson hunter is almost done. I will try to get some descent pics of it tonight and post them here .

Well I painted the belly the weapons and now I have to think of an effect on the engines and apply oil washes along with some weathering.









I am over the neck with grey knights so I am gonna post some picks of them in WIP .
