I'll Be Back
|
Hey guys ive started a necron army i bought a necron battle force and a command barge.
As it comes with a free necron overlord, i was thinking what load-out should i give him, should i keep him in the command barge
or should i make an Annihilation barge.
Also what gear should i give him, there's a big choice and i dont know if some of the things are worth it?

If you don't have an Annihilation Barge, or if you only have 1, I'd use the kit to make that. They are a good low points heavy support choice.
Your Overlord kit depends on what you want him to do. I always take the Semptirnal Weave for the better armor save, and sometimes take a Phase Shifter for a really good Invul Save. I tend not to upgrade them to a warscythe because the way I play, my Overlord almost never gets into CC. If you want a more fighty Overlord, Warscythes are awesome weapons, and Mindshackle Scarabs can dp some serious damage. If I am short on points sometimes I will add a Tac Arrow, but usually not. A Res Orb is worth the points especially if you attach your Overlord to a unit.
Eventually you're gonna want to get a Destroyer Lord. They are IMO the best Necron HQ option due to Preffered Enemy Everything.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh hey...you don''t have to glue the big gun to the Annihilation Barge. It kind of clicks in.
So with the kit you have, you will have access to both the Catacomb Command Barge and the Annihilation barge.

Regardless of how you Play your Overlord, you always want the following:
Warscythe- Regardless of if you get into melee often or not, it is single handily the best non-unique close combat weapon the game. There is no reason not to take this.
Sempiternal Weave- 2+ Save is absolutly critical.
MSS- This will let you win challenges against Daemon Princes, or other superior foes. It's a must have.
Optional, but highly recommended
Phase Shifter- 3++ is pretty critical. Combined with the other gear, it makes your Overlord a beast.
Res Orb- The Overlord getting up on his own with a 4+, is almost worth the cost of this. If you are throwing him into just about any unit, you want this.
Really, you almost always want to gear your Overlord out quite a bit. Overlords can do a lot of the heavy lifting in the army, and can serve multiple roles.

Yeah, go with what Sasori says. That is the best loadout.
(Whenever I use a Overlord vs. a Destoyer Lord or named Character, I am doing so to try and get a cheap HQ option to unlock a secondary detatchment or to fit in points for something else)
But do remember not to glue that gun onto your Barge!

A fun overlord to use is Nemesor Zhandrekh, (most likely spelled this wrong) for his load out he is 5 pts more expensive than a similarly kitted out overlord and his special rules can really be a benefit

I run mine with the warscythe, sempitermal weave, mind shackle scarabs, and phase shifter upgrades. I also almost always run two of those guys in two command barges. They are a ton of fun and can really mess with your opponent. Just make sure you have a good understanding of how chariots work.
I used to keep them on the back field guarding units of various troops, but it never seemed to work well. I don't run wraiths, so I really needed something to jump across the table and kill things. It's worked quite well so far.

Just going to point out that if you take a Command Barge you do not have to purchase Sempiternal Weave. They get the 2+ from the Chariot rules benefit.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated. |

Only while on the chariot. If it get shot down, or wrecked in CC the Overlord goes back to having a 3+. Always get the Weave.

Lord in a command barge with a warscythe and 3++ is fething awful to face. It can singlehandedly turn the tide of a game, especially against tau.

Haha, yeah NEVER forget the mindshackle scarabs... the only thing better then watching a demon prince kill itself... is the look on your opponents face when his demon prince kills himself...

Throwing drones into MSS lords is hilarious. Their damage output increases 300% (and by that I mean, they do 0 damage.)
