Longtime 1st and 2nd Edition Ork, I recently got back into playing 40K.

I have played in several RTT's and numerous pick up games and have done VERY well. (Old age and treachery works well.)  :biggrin

Just recently went up against the cheezyest thing I have ever seen and since I don't have the wealth of 4th Edition experience to deal with it, I need help from da Boyz.

Playing against a Chaos player last weekend, my opponent fields the usual Chaos beekies and assorted nastyness...

And a demon (Prince I think.)

I say to myself, OK self, let's soften this big boy up with some dakka from my bika boyz.

Ooops, wait, Mr. Prince has a power that doesn't allow him to be shot at.

OK I sez to myself, I was planning to take him out in CC anyway. So with a mighty Waaaggghhh, in go the bikaz.

Ooops, sorry, Mr. Prince has ANOTHER power that doesn't allow him to be attacked in close combat.

WTF I sez...

OK, 3rd and 4th Edition stole my  pulsa rokkits so I cant even knock him down and now they allow a mob that only a wierdboy could hurt in psycic phase....

Except that only Marines have psykers and get to have a psy phase.

I watched this thing merrily eat several of my mobs with no chance for me to hit back...

Was I being jacked or did GW actually allow this idiotic combo.

Look, I love Orks and I never mind watching my boyz die since they will get their chance in CC somewhere along the line, but is there and answer to dealing with this ?

To paraphrase you, GW did actually allow this idiotic combo.

Its probably less dangerous to Orks than you realise.. once its in assault it can no longer use the power so you can countercharge a combat. It can only kill so many boyz per turn and they are not high cost models, so once it hits a big mob the combination of choppas and powerklaws should kill it. Speed Freaks have a harder time against it, but regular Orks should be okay, if played carefully.

But yes, it is the suck.

You should be able to hit him back once you are in assault.

The power you're talking about is Siren, and it just means you can't be shot at or assaulted. You can still be attacked if you initiate an assault.

Thanks a bunch Tor,

I was had, this guy was acting like no one was allowed to attack it in CC at all.

It IS cheezy, but not unkillable. I appreciate you taking the time to clear this up.

Unfortunatly there is nothing the orks can do to stop psychic powers at the moment. So unless the guy fails his LD check he can get Siren each and every time. So you will just have to wait for him to assault you. Then pound is butt back in counter assault.

Keep in mind too that he only has a 1/6 chance of getting Siren - it's a minor psychic power, and as such the roll is random. But yes, once combat is initiated, it can be attacked - you simply can't start it.

Well, he only has a 1/6 chance per roll. But most siren players take 7 rolls or so on the minor psychic power table to be sure.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

Siren is beatable, just take the charge with one mob and countercharge with another?

I strongly reccomend that you borrow the guys codex and read upp on what the Siren minor psychic power does and how to get it, as the guy playing it doesn't seem to know. Also double check that he rolls for the power, and check how many dice he buys. 7 rolls is 70pts...
