Several of my gaming friends have taken to using paint pens they get from like Office Max for some detail work.

I have kind of shaky hands, and my biggest challenge is painting is thin lines. Has anyone here used these paint pens, and would they be good for that application (drawing on thin-lines of paint...think like woad on a Celt or seomthing)?

What exactly are you gonna use the micro pen for. Besides purity seals I can't see much other use. Get a good kolinsky brush and practice on piece of paper. Try using the brush like a pen, writing your name and drawing straight and curved lines. Understand how much paint the brush can hold and how pressure regulates how much of the paint is left on the paper (mini). After a while you won't think about pens any more

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

PM me if you are interested in Commission work.

Intended use is for (a) writing, or (b) anything that requires lines that are as small as writing on a 28mm mini.

No matter how muchI practice (so far anyway), I cant make my hand that steady, and the results are not pleasing.

Although I will insist practicing on paper with a good brush, a micro pen like the one on the link or thinner will work just fine.

Runnin up on ya.

I use them with my Dark Eldar; they're awesome for putting outlines on models/vehicles....of course I'm terrible with applying it but it's no fault of the pen's.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Wait, what are we talking about, here? Paint pens/markers and micron pens are two different things. I love microns for tiny lettering, checks and dags, sometimes even stark blacklining. Paint markers don't generally come with fine enough tips for any of that. They're great for quickly coating simple, narrow shapes like railroad tracks, though. I know there are some specialty paint markers marketed to the gunpla crowd, but I've never explored them. Perhaps they have finer tips or a longer open time (allowing for cleanup with mild solvent) than the usual fare.

Paint pens would be useless for tiny details unless you are working very large. What you want are micron pens, and they have nice felt tips that come in different sizes and have good ink. They also sell brush tip pens that are good for streak effects if you rough up the tips a bit by pressing them on paper or after a fair bit of use, but I do not recommend this if you actually want to draw something later.
