So it looks like I'll be headed to New Delhi in 2015, still a ways away, but I did some initial looking and cannot find any indication of any sort of wargaming community there.
Even the Dakka store finder and player finder have a big old blank spot between east Asia and a handful in the Middle East.
Anyone spent time in India and know if wargaming exists there?

India is large, maybe you should be more specific.
In any case, GW products need a larger community of rich families who can and want to afford this hobby, which is not a given in many areas there. And it is ROW with no specific GW store in the whole country ( GW storefinder shows Shanghai as the nearest GW store including listed Independent stores ).

Yeah it's definitely odd how GW has a presence in China (I played quite a bit when I was there 2007-9) but nothing in India, esp since they never really did a Chinese translation of the rules.
Maybe I can make the beachhead!

Well New Delhi is a big city so there may be other expats that play war/board games.
India has many different cultures, but i don't know if they have interest into wargames (but they were an English colony so maybe they got infected with it )
I am always interested in local stuff, a miniature game based on the Mahabharata story would be wicked cool.

In the greater Seattle area, we have a lot of Indians living here who work in the tech sector. I've seen absolutely ZERO of them in a game/hobby store ever. Well, except for curious "civilians" who wanted to know what GW was. Never saw them again after they left.

Mumbai as it is the economic hub of India might be a better place to find people. New Delhi is a great place to be if you love seeing history, cultural places, etc. Wargaming really does not exist there.
On a non wargaming note, make sure you see the Red Fort and do not go to the India Gate unless you are a veteran traveler and used to dealing with beggars/hawkers. Have fun, I wish I could go back.

They have codexes in Chinese, and they're even soft cover. Still cost the same as their hard cover English counterparts, and come out about four months later, but still...

I might be mistaken, but I believe the proprietor of Indus Miniatures is an Indian (now living in the US). He might have a bit more info for you regarding gaming in India.
