A pain settled deep inside Seer Tolfnu. One of the few Seers of his craftworld had died on this small and barren planet, infected with humans. If only the Imperial settlers they had allowed to claim the world had been able to defend it as they had tenaciously defended so many other worlds! But now the Enemy had brought its forces and rallied the scum of the gutters to their support. The loss of his brother was even more troubling given that a great Daemon of Change had materialised, using the Seer’s own soul to fuel its coming. The ache and throb of that knowledge was greater than any human could bear. Other Eldar less trained in the Path of the Seer may have begun to scream and wail with the weight of it. But Tolfnu remained still, calm. Now, they must attempt to destroy the body of this menace, weakening them while other support could be gathered. Tolfnu took heart from knowing the webway had provided them with aid, a troupe of harlequins came to fight, as well as the great Phoenix Lord Maugan Ra himself! They would prevail.

So, MarsNZ and I spent Good Friday playing games. First was a small 6th Ed game, which we followed with the same armies but in 2nd Ed. Then, we decided we wanted a climax to the ongoing story we had created. So we made up some larger armies and fought a finale.
Here's the first game.

The Mission:
We rolled up Big Guns Never Tire with 3 Objectives and Vanguard Deployment. MarsNZ got to place two of the objectives.
Deployment:
I deployed first and got first turn.
Turn One:
Eldar –I moved my Wraithlord and Harlequins up to the edge of the forest. We were playing it as
LOS blocking, so until I entered the woods, I was safe. Everything else shifted about a little to get as good a view as I could, taking a few shots to see what damage I could do. I managed to split the Cultists in front of the Defiler in half.
Chaos –.He moved forward to occupy the trenches with his giant unit of Marines, backed up by Cultists. The Bikes and Screamers got awfully close, and the defiler put some damage on me. But I was feeling okay.
Turn Two:
Eldar – I moved into the woods, hoping the cover safe would be enough for me to set up some assaults on turn three. The Harlequins came up to the edge, the Wraithlord beside them, and the Banshees dismounted and ran to get right to the edge as well. Maugan Ra and the Aveners were coming up as well, and if the Warp Spiders had arrived this turn then I would have had plenty of units to land on the Marines next turn.
Chaos – Unfortunately, I had underestimated how much firepower he could bring to bear. His Obliterators arrived, his bikes spun round, the Defiler levelled a Battle Cannon and the Screamer made Slash attacks. By the end of it all, I had lost my Harlequins, the Avengers were decimated, the Wraithlord was on one wound, and I was looking pretty ragged.

While the battlefield screamed and roared beyond a barricade covered hill, all remained quiet near the trenches filled with the Black Legion. The almost-men shuffled, bored with dull position they had been ordered to hold. A few were becoming restless, ready to find some violent sport of their own. Then, there was a rustle in the trees.
Instantly, the foliage exploded, wave after wave of bolter fire erupting inside the light leaves and branches. Every marine emptied his gun into the vegetation before pausing to reload and continue firing. After long seconds of destruction, they lowered the guns. A clearing had been made in the forest, strewn with broken wood and, satisfyingly, blood. A giant alien machine was leaning against a tree trunk, trying to lift an elegant weapon to bear on the marines in the trenches. Finally, the fight had reached them.

Turn Three:
Eldar – My Warp Spiders came in and I decided to go for the moral/narrative victory, and try to kill the Greater Daemon that was the cause of the whole campaign. They landed right behind him and promptly failed to do anything to him. I separated Maugan Ra from the Avengers, not wanting the Prescienced mass of Marines to be able to Overwatch him as part of their unit. Of course, my Banshees failed their charge and the Avengers blocked Maugan Ra from completing his own. Thankfully, the few Aspect Warriors that were in the fight managed to stay alive and not break, meaning the Marines would be unable to shoot next turn.

The White and Blue armour of the Dire Avengers shone beneath the smears of blackened blood that covered him. The Exarch stood proud, slicing his spear through the body of yet another twisted human. Before the body had begun to fall, he spun and kicked the legs out from under another marine, unable to land a killing blow before swinging his spear to block a low punch from another of the black armoured marines. He stabbed backwards, managing to pierce the side of yet another marine, but the crowd was pressing him in. The eyes of his armour flashed in the red sun as the tide swept over and bore him down.

Chaos – My right flank was shredded. The Marines finished off the Avengers. The Lord of Change stomped all over the warp Spiders in combat. Things were looking grim.
Turn Four:
Eldar – My Banshees made it into combat with the Marines.
Chaos – The Defiler charged Maugan Ra, who lived somehow! The Lord of Change leapt into the com bat to help out the Marines. On the other side, he kept gunning down the few men I had alive. I decided to concede at this point, I was too far gone to do anything else.

The gigantic deamonic engine came scittering across the broken landscape towards the skeletal armour of Maugan Ra. The Phoenix Lord gracefully moved aside, as the massive hulk swung its claws through the air, searching for his light frame in order to crush him in their embrace. But he spun and dodged, unwilling to allow even the slightest touch from the foul machine. The Maugetar sliced through cables and sinews alike, spilling oil and ichor; but unable to slow the machine down.
From far away, Tolfnu saw the Phoenix Lord caught in a desperate dance with a mostrostiy. Roaring engines sounded nearby as a group of black armoured bikers came charging towards the Dark Reapers manning the ruins around him. Above, the skies were twisted now, coloured by green and blue clouds while the sun had turned red and the moon had turned to gold. A single light was beginning to glow brightly overhead. The world had been lost.
Summoning all his power, Seer Tolfnu opened a small portal around Maugna Ra, sending him far from this battlefield, to the safety of a craftworld, though he could not be sure which one. Behind him the shrieking laughter of pink and blue daemons cut through the air, dooming the Seer and the few Eldar that remained alive on the field.
